My experience at Miss South Carolina was one that I will never forget. It was an opportunity to experience something that you dream about since the days of being a little girl, you make lifetime friendships and encounter memories that will last forever.
On the evening of March 2, 2002, I was crowned Miss Calhoun County in the Cameron Auditorium, home of the "Calhoun Players". Being crowned
Miss Calhoun County 2002 places me on the road to becoming the next Miss South Carolina.
Becoming the next Miss South Carolina means a great deal of preparation through community service, the support of the community, and being a strong advocate of a platform. My platform is entitled
THINK FIRST - Water Safety Education. Water Safety Education prepares children, teenagers and adults to have the knowledge to be safe around the water and how to react in emergency situations. But Water Safety Education also informs people about their environment through the inclusion of Palmetto Pride created by the South Carolina Governor's Council of Beautification and Litter. Water Safety Education also teaches people about fitness. Swimming is a lifelong sport that offers a full body workout.
I chose THINK FIRST- Water Safety Education because drowning is the second leading cause of death in the United States and South Carolina for children ages 1 to 19 and males 18 to 24. People can drown in a matter of 30-60 seconds. Hundreds of children drown each year in water-related accidents.
My goal is to educate and inform Calhoun County and the surrounding areas about the importance of Water Safety Education and the difference that they can make in their community.
