Friday July 18, 2003- Forward Alexei Ponikarovsky signs a one year deal with the Leafs. Friday August 22, 2003- Bryan McCabe was re-signed to a one year deal, dollar amount was not specified, but it is rumoured to be around $3.75 million, about a $1 million raise. Considering the defenceman's subpar performance last season, that sounds pretty generous. Apparently, this is his first time signing a deal without arbitration or other extreme circumstances. Wednesday July 16 2003- The Leafs sign WADE BELAK to a two year deal and goalie Jamie Hodson to a one year deal. Hodson spent half of last season in the East Coast League and the other half with St. John's. Tuesday July 15 2003- Ric Jackman is resigned to a one year deal. July 11, 2003- The Leafs acquire Defenseman Bryan Marchment from The San Jose Sharks. The contract is a one year, $2 million deal. So the regular season's over and Wade has set personal records in pretty much all facets of his game. He scored 3 goals, 9 assists and had 196 penalty minutes in all (which broke Tie Domi's record for most penalties on the team for ?8? straight years). And all of this came playing 8 less games than last season. 2 in 2! Wade has scored 2 goals in 2 games, much to the sheer amazement of not only me, but every Maple Leaf fan and probably every Leafs player too. The 1st goal came in T.O. on Saturday March 29, 2003 at 8:48 of the 3rd period with the assist going to Robert Svehla. The 2nd goal came 2 nights later in New Jersey, 2:53 of the 1st. Assisting on the goal was Kaberle and Svehla. I was doing my homework when I heard on the radio that Wade scored that 2nd goal, and I just about had a heart attack. (Oh and by the way, both games he scored in were wins for Toronto.) March 1 2003- Wade Belak has earned 2 assists in 3 games. It may not sound like a whole lot but for a player like Wade, who's not known for his scoring and not expected from him, 2 assists in 3 games is pretty good. HOPEFULLY it keeps coming... I have faith. Febuary 29 2003- Wade guest starred on TSN's Off The Record and, of course, did a very wonderful job. So charming, so funny, so adorable. |
