Spelling Spiral Activity Choices: January **Choose 3 activities. Each activity must use EVERY SPELLING WORD, unless otherwise noted. Spirals are due the day before your Spelling Test!!** Math choices 1. Write each word to create a 2 by 2 multiplication problem. The first factor is the total number of letters (written twice); the second factor should be the number of vowels (written twice. For exampleÉ dare 44 x 22= 2. Find the price of your spelling words if vowels are worth $3.50 and consonants are worth $1.00 3. Write each word and create a division problem to solve. Divide the number of letters by the number of syllables. For exampleÉ smothering 10 : 3= 4. Write a division problem for each word. The dividend is the total number of letters, and the divisor is the number of vowels. RememberÉ you will have remainders!!! 5. Using your pre-test, divide the number in all (16) by the number you got correct. The remainder tells you how many times to write every word. Hands on 6. Write your list in your spiral, then find a window. Blow on the window and write your words in the steam. 7. Aerobic spelling. In our journal write your list assign each word an exercise. For each word complete the exercise as you spell the word out loud. (For example truth = crunches. Every crunch you do, give one letter of the wordÉ 5 crunches total.) Have mom or dad sign your spiral when you complete it. 8. Write each word in your spiral, then go outside and use your feet to make the word in the snow with footprints. 9. Write your list in bubble letters. 11. Design a code for the alphabet, then use the code to write your list. Write the correct way next to it. 12. Glitter words: write your words in cursive, then use glue to trace the lines and sprinkle with glitter. Let dry for 20 minutes and blow off the excess glitter. LA choices 13. Spelling Pyramids: write one letter per line, adding a letter as you build down in a pyramid shape. 14. Write a 1 page (at least) story about the Wild West using ALL of your words. 15. Find your words in the dictionary. Next to each word, record the guide words at the top of the page. 16. Write your list, next to each word write an antonym for that word. 17. Write your list, next to each word write a synonym for that word. 18. Write each word and next to it write the part of speech it is. (For example, broom = noun, smooth = adjective, etc.) 19. Write a poem using as many spelling words as you can. YOU MUST USE ALL OF YOUR WORDS, so you may need to write more than 1 poem. Highlight your words.
20. Create your own activity. YOU MUST write an explanation of the activity, and complete the activity in your spiral. If it is a good idea I may use it on an upcoming list!!! |
