| "The traitor Malikal, Your Majesty." Nalestriel announced, stepping aside and kneeling. Malikal stepped forward, head held high though bloodied, flanked by guards, and shackled in watersilver manacles, but he resisted when forced to kneel before the throne. Riotous cries and explosions ripped the air outside, miles away, and the sound of crumbling walls reverberated even in the palace. "So you still fear me Vasiryon, to send your toadies after me with spell shackles? Good to know that you acknolwedge my power, 'father'." the dark elf said, voice tremulous with pain but still snarky. The guards struck him hard in the back with their halberds, and Malikal hissed loudly with agony. The Mage-King grimaced, and all but Malikal flinched at his look of displeasure. "You are still a disrespectful whelp, a wretched and ungrateful son. Your power is nothing. Your treachery will be punished, and your little rebellion will ultimately fail. You will live only long enough to see the end of this revolt, and then you will be put down with the last of the rebel dogs. You have been brought before me shackled only for your own discomfort, and to save me the meager trouble of slaying you in spell-battle right here and now. You do not deserve such a swift and merciful end, nor such a warrior's death. Nay, Malikal, you will suffer and die as slowly and agonizingly a death as I can arrange. You will be tortured before the Dragon-King in my vault, and humbled at last as you see the full extent of my power, for none can escape my grasp and none can lay claim to rulership of this world but me. Not the Dragon-King, not the Hobgoblin warlords, and most certainly not the people of your little rebellion." |
