When I was young
The biggest dream was to be grown up
To do as I wanted
Wanting to be real tough
I walked many miles
Trying to think of the day
When all my hopes and dreams
Would be there for me to take
Some dreams were silly
Having no point at all
Some were always out of reach
For I could never be that tall
My feet led my down a path
Along this stretch of beach
Where a child was playing in the sand
When my shadow touched his feet
He squinted his eyes
As he looked up my way
With the sun over my shoulder
He began to say
I am building a Castle
Isn't it neat
It isn't very big
I lost my bucket in the sea
You want to help
His little voice asked
Your hands are big
And mine are real fast
I can get all the sand
I can put it here and put it there
You can build it up tall
We can even make stairs
I looked in his face
The excitement in his smile
I knelt down beside him
Putting the sand in a pile
Together we worked
Till the sun was down low
Bringing the sand to a shape
To a shape we all know
In all my dreams
In the past and still to come
It came to me that moment
When our castle was all done
The little boy stood
With his hands on his hips
As he tilted his head
And he clinched both his fists
He shouted out YES
Then ran all about
Said thanks for your help
As I heard his mom shout
The little boy turned
Then he ran out of sight
I sat on the beach
Letting the day turn to night
We have in our minds
What we feel are our dreams
I have been shown by a child
Just what a dream means
It is living our life
Every moment in time
No matter how small
It is up to us all to find
When your life leaves you stressed
Feeling you lost all your dreams
Think of that little boy
And what it all means
For me I have learned
For a real dream come true
It is to enjoy life to its fullest
Your whole lifetime through
