Hugh Prather
I first discovered Hugh Prather when I was about 15.  I was browsing at a local bookstore when I came across his book "Notes to Myself". I was still the naive child and have to admit, I noticed  the book only because of it's cover.  Simple....white...black lettering.  I was intrigued though, so I picked it up and read a few pages.   I loved it.....decided to buy it..
No question, it was one of the most important investments of my life.  I was forever changed after reading it, even at 15.  His writings are a combination of modern day philosophy, spirituality, self-confession and everyday observation. If you like philosophy but find the classic philosophers to be a bit "heavy", then you would love Hugh.
More about Hugh
After reading Notes, I read "The Quiet Answer".  It is more religion based, but equally as good.  If you are looking for a relaxing, inspiring book to read, I recommend either of those.  There are both relatively short and can be finished in one day.....and to be honest....you will probably read them cover to cover the first time you pick them up.
Hugh lives in Tucson, Arizona with his wife Gayle and three sons.  He is the resident minister at St. Francis in the Foothills United Methodist Church.  He is also a counselor.  His areas of concentration include; battered women, parents who have lost children, couples and families in crisis.  He is a remarkable man.  Should you decide to read his books,  it will be evident.
Hugh Prather Quotes
"The first rule for restoring your happiness is:
If it's boiling, put the lid on your ego so it doesn't splatter on other people.  At the very least, do not act out your unhappiness.  Now you have taken responsibility for your state of mind and can focus on what you alone control."
"The journey toward perfection is by definition a path of mistakes.  We have a right to many things, but a life without problems is  not one of them."
"Once, when we were quite small, we somehow knew not to let things become so real.  The world danced before us because we looked at it through dancing eyes.  This is still possible, you know.."
