SAINTS SERGIUS & BAKKHUS: THE DIOCESAN PATRONS Saint Sergius and Saint Bakkhus were Arab citizens of the Roman Empire, as well as Roman legionnaires, Moorish Christians and also lovers. They were put to the sword by the Roman Imperium for daring to follow their consciences by embracing the faith and their hearts by becoming and remaining lovers, happily facing death before renouncing the dictates of their Spirit-filled consciences. They count among the Patrons of soldiers, Queer people, and the nation of Syria. Saints Sergius & Bakkhus have been chosen as patrons of the Diocese of New Jersey. |
