| Farscape- The Good Guys... Chiana | |
 CHIANA
(Gigi Edgley) is of the Nebari species. She was a rebel in
a world of conformists, imprisoned because she would not 'fit in.' She had
escaped Nebari Prime with her brother, Nerri. Not long after, Nerri left Chiana
in the hopes of making some change on Nebari Prime. He has since become a rebel
outlaw of some sort. Chiana got by, living day to day off what she could
scrounge up from stealing, cheating or seducing... on the streets of however
many backwater worlds she wandered to. Before too long she was recaptured by a
Nebari official and his 'mind-cleansed' partner, Durka. After a collision with
Moya, the party was welcomed, hesitantly, on board. After an assassination
attempt, Durka regained his evil side and nearly the same time, Chiana escaped
from the cell she was being held in. Her 'Nebari' captor was soon found dead,
and to this day it is uncertain whether it was Chiana or Durka who performed the
grisly deed. For her help in trying to defeat Durka she was welcomed aboard
Moya.Chiana has grown from the willful miscreant she had started out as, perhaps because she has slowly grown to trust those around her. Of all the characters on Farscape, Chiana is perhaps the most difficult to predict. She fears being too comfortable... that somehow it opens herself to injury. During her love affair with Dargo, she betrayed him by sleeping with his son... not only ending the relationship but distancing them in a way that has yet to be overcome... This was done for purely selfish reasons, her fear of 'settling down' with Dargo prompted it. However, she gave no thought to Dargo and Jothee when she did this, and her betrayal broke any possibility of Dargo being able to bond with his long separated son, at least for the time being. The one thing Dargo had wanted, taken away from him by the woman he loved. This is not to say Chiana is ruthless or selfish, only that the traits of the street urchin still dwell within her. She has proven numerous times her loyalty to the crew and on many occasions fought side by side with them or risked her own life for them. Chiana is not afraid of sacrificing her life to her new family... but despite her love for her friends, she cannot yet open her heart to them completely. Perhaps this stems from some shame of her own past... we as of yet just don't know. Chiana is a girl with secrets. Slowly over the course of season three and four Chiana and her crewmates are becoming more and more aware of a strange trait she seems to possess. Initially Chiana started showing some signs of precognition- seeing things before they happened- then in season four this ability transformed into something of an acute visual sense... she can for a time, see things in a sort of hyper-vision... as if time itself slows down. However, the more she uses this newfound talent, the more she suffers the consequences in the form of blindness and excruciating headaches. |
