This year Dennis Lee, the
great Canadian children's poet, was nominated for
the Hans Christian Andersen Award. To celebrate his
nomination, Alligator Pie was chosen as our Poem of
the Week and we made papier mache alligator hats.
We then wore the hats to a news conference to
announce his nomination for the award. There were
many photographers and reporters, and Mr. Lee
recited some of his most popular poems. We chanted
Alligator Pie to Mr. Lee and then everyone ate
alligator pie and drank alligator juice (really
cake and kiwi juice).
