To: AP Chemistry Students Be Honest Work Hard Work Quickly Stay Focused From: Mr. Schuett Subject: Test Confidentiality Do Your Best Work!!!!!!! Since the multiple choice part of the AP Chemistry test is confidential, please do not come to class the day after the test and ask me to help you determine if you worked certain questions out correctly. I am not allowed to see any of the questions on the test.. You are not to go to classmates as well to share information on problem solutions. Some of those students might take the course in the future. What my students do inform me of is the areas of general themes that they thought I hit on too lightly that appeared on essay section of the test. So if you think that we did not do enough lab work, tell me about it. If you think we should have spent more time on buffers, tell me about it. Tell me if I gave too much homework or too little homework. Tell me if the web pages were a waste of time. Constructive criticism should help me better prepare the students for the test next year. And do not be embarrassed about not wanting to look back at your essay questions. That is legal to do but some students end up getting upset if they find mistakes they made. So you might want to wait until this summer to see your score. And please e-mail me your score even if it is a one. The test is extremely hard. You should just be proud getting through all of that material in one school year. So study smart. Build on your strengths. 90 minutes for 75 questions is not enough time to work them all out. Stay focused, work extremely quickly. Do not make foolish choices. Use process of elimination to get answers. NO CALCULATORS ALLOWED ON THE MULTIPLE CHOICE SECTION. The study guides have hundreds of practice questions for you to work out. This is you best way TO GET READY FOR THE TEST. The more you practice these multiple choice tests the easier the main test will be for you. Develop a study plan. Above all remain totally honest through the entire test taking experience. You are the smartest kids in the school and the most trust worthy students. I do know from the review guides and information given to me about the essay questions that every major topic we covered this year will be found in those multiple choice questions. You have the list of concepts that we went over the other day. That list is just a starting point for you. Develop your own detailed list. Thursday Night spend 90 minutes doing a practice test. I have some of these tests for you to take home and work out Friday night you should take another practice test. Time yourself so you can see how fast you must work to get through all of the multiple choice questions. Saturday meet with some friends at a library and share with each other the kinds of problems you are extremely confident with. Maybe then the others will find that these questions can be solved. Saturday afternoon use a study guide to help you practice writing chemical equations properly. Saturday night start working on the essay questions that I gave out to you. Try to remember the rules for significant figures. Do not fall into any pitfalls while taking the test. I am not breaking any security rules by letting you see past solutions to the free response questions. Actually, the AP Board encourages us to do this. So learn from these solutions. I also have the released multiple choice questions from the past AP Chemistry tests that you can take home as well. Monday night go back over the harder concepts of the course: Review concepts such as titrations, buffers, pH, ice charts, pOH, thermodynamics, and electrochemistry. A calculator is allowed on part A of the Free Response section of the test. Make sure batteries are full strength before coming to the testing site. Tuesday morning eat a healthy breakfast. Exercise a little bit to wake up your body. Then report to the Media Center. Read all of the directions carefully before proceeding with the test. If you have any questions, ask them before the test begins. I am sure of all you will do your best work on the test. Make sure you bring all of your textbooks to class on Thursday. Senior exam will also be given on Thursday. The last two weeks in the course we will do some lab activities and prepare for the semester exam. |
