House of 1000 Corpses | ||||||||||
"The MPAA got their way with this movie, but you could see what Rob Zombie wanted to do!" | ||||||||||
Set in the 1970’s 4 teens looking for some fun on a stormy Halloween Eve in Texas stop at a gas station and meet some clown guy who tells them a little about Dr. Satan. The clown guy gives them some directions. Some cheerleaders in the town are missing. While on their way, they pick up a hitch hiker (uh oh). A girl named Baby. They begin to drive her down the road home when their tire gets blown out. One of the guys and Baby start running to Baby’s house to get the tow truck. The tow trucks picks up the rest and takes them home. There is no phone and they don’t have a spare tire. At the house they meet Madame Butterfly (or something like that) who is the mom. There is a tall, horribly burned brother who wears a mask, he can’t talk but is the kindest of the bunch. There’s an Uncle or something who looks like Frank the dogs owner in Men in Black. There’s also Grandpa he doesn’t do much. The family isn’t your regular hillbilly family. They are evil, crazy, maniacs who take people they find and torture them. After the 4 teens have dinner, they see a short show on the family stage and then leave. The problem is the gate is closed. One of the guys goes out to unlock it when the two men in the family attack him. The other guy comes out they attack him. The two girls in the car are trapped as they begin smashing the windows. The next day, the police come looking for them. The police investigate the house and well…the police fail. There is a shot. The uncle holds a gun to the deputy’s head…and holds it…and holds it…and holds it for about a minute, not moving. People in the theater started laughing. Then bang. One of the guys gets knives thrown at him from the uncle and other torture. Well, then they are put into bunny costumes and put into coffin and put down Dr. Satan’s grave. One of the girls runs away but is caught by Baby and stabbed many times. In the grave the man is grabbed by some zombies and the girl gets into a crevice and finds a hallway of skeleton corpses. I guess there were 1000. She finds a door and finds Dr. Satan operating on the brain of the man and then a Jason type monster comes after her. I won’t spoil anymore. While not as violent as expected, it was more disturbing. There are many shots of the missing cheerleaders being yelled at by the uncle and tied up. The family looks like they are zombies. They act crazy they look crazy. There are a lot of shots that are over overexposed and it gets kind of old. This visually looks like a big music video. Definitely not for the squeamish. Not really scary, but the family is cruel and satanic they take people into their house and torture them. Rob Zombie does a good job of showing how horrible the people are.. This movie went through a lot of re edits to get an R. It took 3 years to get this released. It also has to wear the strong sadistic violence/gore warning with adequate reason. The acting was kind of corny sometimes but it was supposed to be. The characters you felt like you wanted to know more about. Some of the characters who have big roles, you don't really seem to know more about them Maybe its called poor character development Can Rob Zombie direct? Well it’s hard to tell because this is not what he made. This is what the studios made him make. For what I saw, yes. We will have to wait for the inevitable Director’s Cut for what we were meant to see. If you could watch The Cell, Saving Private Ryan, Hannibal, Texas Chainsaw Massacure, and Die Hard, then you can probably watch this. Grade: B Should you see it? Sure. As long as you’re not squeamish and I’d say at least 15. |
