REVIEW
Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd
"Funniest movie of the Year if not the decade!"
Since people first learned of the movie back when filming started last November, people have wondered how good this really could be compared to the original. Would it be a Terminator 2 or would it be a Men in Black 2? Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels did not return for this, but you can’t really tell. These guy’s look and act just like them from the looks they give to their voices. The Farley Brothers were not involved but you could tell they weren’t with the style of filmmaking.
It opens with Harry’s birth but its nothing that you haven’t seen in the opening of The Naked Gun 2 ½ I think it was. It shows Harry as a child a bit with his imaginary friend. Then it goes to Lloyd in present day he lives with his dad who’s a janitor for the school in the school. They then run into each other on the first day. Eugene Levy is the principal and Cheri Oteri is the lunch lady. They are working together to scam $100,000 from a charity. To get the grant they get a special needs class, they get Harry and Lloyd to make a list of “special people” for the class. The bully, his girlfriend, guy who dresses as mascots, football player who got hit in the head, a guy with a broken leg, and an exchange student. They decide to join the class because it’ll get them out of school. There is a girl, Jessica, who works for the school paper and is trying to figure out the scam. She has Harry come over to her house to discuss how the school is scamming them. Harry brings her chocolate, and lets just say, it’s hilarious. Bob Saget comes back from wherever he’s been to play Jessicas dad. This movie has some parts that seem to parallel with the original. The only thing is the running gag of the "your it gag". It gets a little old, but there is enough other stuff to make it not a big deal.
This movie and its 82 minutes is packed with laughs. Its so compact, its nothing but laughs. I don’t remember a movie where I laughed as often as this movie. There were also many huge laughs, the theater seemed to find it hilarious. The acting by Eugene Levy and Cheri Oteri was rather corny if not bad. I think it meant to be though. The “special” students acted very good. Harry and Lloyd were great there performances were just like Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. It lacked some of the emotion the first one had. Not the best movie, but it has great laughs that should entertain most people. The first one was a classic and this one is not. So far, this is the funniest movie of the year if not most years. Go see if you want a movie where the laughs never end.
The people I saw it with also thought it was hailarious and enjoyed it very much it seems.
