Writing Activities

This month we will focus on the proper formation of both capital and lower-case letters using lined paper.

In addition, during our journal time, your child will be encouraged to illustrate and use "invented" spelling (sounding out how you think a word is spelled) about a pre-selected topic.   How about making up a special journal at home? It could be a wonderful keepsake to keep for years to come!

Check out these pumpkin recipes....let me know how they taste!!!

A jack-o-lantern sandwich

You will need:  a pumpkin cookie cutter, 1 small tub of cream cheese, orange food coloring, 1 slice of bread, candy corn,  raisins and  cheerios.

Cut out the bread into a pumpkin shape, add orange food coloring to the cream cheese and spread on the "pumpkin". Now, add the candy corn for the eyes, a raisin for the nose and about 5 cheerios for the happy grin! Enjoy!

Yummy Pumpkin Seeds

Mix cleaned and dried pumpkin seeds with a small amount of oil and seasoning salt. Bake spread out on cookie sheets at 325 for 20 minutes. Yum!

Toxic Waste Punch

INGREDIENTS
1/2 gallon of rainbow (mixed flavors) sherbert
2 2-liter bottles of 7-Up or Ginger Ale
1 pkg. green Kool-Aid

DIRECTIONS

Put the sherbert in a 2-3 gallon bowl. Sprinkle the Kool-Aid across the top. Slowly pour the soda around the sides of the sherbert. The soda will lift the Kool-Aid leaving delightful color streaks and sour flavors.

HAVE FUN!

Recipes for Crafts to have fun with!

(YUCK, NOT TO BE EATEN)

Slimey Glob!

1/2 cup of Borax
2 quarts + 1-1/2 cups of water
2 cups of white glue
food coloring (Choose ONE color)
Lysol (the Lysol stops spoiling)
plastic bags for storage (Zip Lock is best)

Directions:
1. Mix together 1/2 cup of Borax with 2 quarts of water. Allow the mixture to settle and then use only the clear liquid. Set aside.
2. Mix 2 cups of white glue (Elmer's is best) with 1-1/2 cups of water. Add food coloring (just a few drops) if you would like the GLOB to have color. Add a few drops of Lysol (this prevents spoilage). 3. Add the clear liquid in #1 with the mixture in #2. Knead the mixture together with your hands into your SILLY GLOB.
4. Store in plastic bag (zip lock type is best).

Bubble Brew!

1 cup liquid dishwashing detergent
2 cups of warm water (not too hot!)
3-4 tablespoons of GLYCERINE (you can find this at drugstores)
1 teaspooon sugar
food coloring (you choose your favorite color!)
a bottle for storage

Directions:
1. Mix together gently all the ingredients in a big container.
2. Use a container with a tight fitting lid or cap for storage.
Note: You can use almost anything to blow bubbles: pipe cleaners shaped into a circle at one end, plastic six-pack beverage holders, paper cups, plastic coat hangers, straws, and funnels.

The secret question is:  What are your three favorite "D" words?
