Drawing – Sketchbook Homework Assignments
1st Quarter

(10 points each) All drawings should fill a page in your sketchbook and  be done from observation unless otherwise noted.

_____ 1.  Create a cover for your sketchbook using a blank piece of paper.  Be creative with  
                 your design and use whatever materials you have available to you at home.  Must be 
                glued to your cover and include: first and last name, period, cubby #.

_____ 2.  Do THREE drawing of a candy of your choice, all on the same page in your
                sketchbook, in pencil.
- The candy in its wrapper
- The same candy half unwrapped
- The same candy half eaten

_____ 3.  A drawing of a small object with a  reflective surface (spoon, scissors, etc.).  Must
                show 5 values.

_____ 4.  Draw any small man-made object (i.e. a set of keys). Draw with dots only, varying   
                their size and spread to create value. Draw at least twice ‘life size’.

_____ 5.  Every household has a “junk drawer.” Open the drawer, don’t move anything, and
                draw what you see as a modified contour drawing.
_____ 6.   Choose a phrase, saying, book title, line of a song or poem, or a quote, and draw the      
                  letters to fit the whole page. Make letters bigger and smaller, slanted, round, whatever 
                  it takes to fill the spaces creatively using the letter shapes as design. Stretch or shrink
                  the letters to fill the negative spaces between letters and words. Color in or around 
                  the letters - make a border or include a picture or other graphic element if you like,             
                  but: Make the letter "fits" the main idea! Be inventive!!! Stretch, shrink, alter the
                  shapes!

_____ 7.  Do a detailed contour drawing of a souvenir or memento that has special meaning to              
                 you.

_____ 8.  Draw 3 objects together with different surface textures.  Show detail through value,    
                texture and contrast.
