Our K-M Newsletter

Language Arts It was J,j Week. We were jumping all week. We jumped to our tables and through hula hoops and over candlesticks just like Jack, Be Nimble. *We read Jillian Jiggs to the Rescue and Jaguar's Jungleberrry Jamboree. We had a jelly tasting party and made a graph of the favorite jelly in K-M. The choices were apple, orange marmalade and strawberry. *We turned a J into a Jack-in-the-box. Our puppet was Jumping Jill who loves to jump for joy. Our alphafriend was also Jumping Jill. *It was great to have our helpers back for emergent writing. I am trying to stress with the children to write like that would talk. Some are skipping words and then can't read the story. We are still working on spacing our words. The newest skill is being sure to write a complete sentence. A person(s) and/or a thing is needed and there was to be an action in the sentence. The children love to list each other's names but then leave out what the action is. Our alphabet song now has 23 verses. Religion *The children are doing very well with the rosaries at morning prayer. I love watching them share rosaries. *They painted a picture of a rosary so they could see how many Hail Marys and Our Fathers are needed to complete a whole rosary. *We read a booklet about the Last Supper and colored a picture of Eucharistic symbols. Mother's Day in K-M **Thank you for spending a great * hour with us. I loved watching your * children share their world with you. There were lots of laughs and smiles. I hope you will put the bags to good use. ***Science ** All five butterflies emerged from their chrysalides this week. We had 4 arrive on Wednesday and 1 more on Thursday. The children were able to observe them drying their wings and being very still at first. Then the butterflies became more active and found the flowers with sugar water. The children were able to see their probiscus(tongue) and watch them eat. Then the butterflies started to really get active and fly around the pavillion. We knew they were ready for the big world and we set them free on Friday. *The children brought home their lima beans and their sunflower plants this week. The lima beans can go right in the ground. They were the ones in the baggie with the paper. The sunflower was the one in the plastic cup. We started them in peat pots and then transferred them to the cups. I would give them a little time before you plant them outside. *All of these activities are part of our Life cycle unit in Science. We are learning about both plant and animal life cycles. Social Studies *We have learned how to read maps and how to make maps using symbols. The children loved the map of the United States and are so curious about Alaska and Hawaii and where they are located. *The Weekly Reader had a United States map in it. I think almost everyone can find New York on our US map. For some reason, Texas is the next most recognized state. Wednesday, May 20, 9:30am---May Crowning in Church, 9:30.
