Cadets

For four years I was a member of the Barker College Cadet Unit. This involved training for and participation in a range of pursuits and outdoor activities, personal development activities, teamwork, management and leadership training and development, and having some fun! With training and experience I was promoted from the rank of Private to Corporal, then from Coporal to Sergeant in charge of the A1 Platoon. Other positions I held were of Unit bugler, Abseil Instructor, and a member of the Unit Brass Band.

Typical training and camp activities included: Navigation, Camping, Cooking, Signalling, Construction of temporary structures (bridges, shelters, camp furniture), Abseiling, Physical pursuits, parade drill, and rescue roleplays.


Training included;

Leadership
Junior Non-Comissioned Officer Training course.
Senior Non-Comissioned Officer Training course.

Abseil Instructor training.
Signalling.
Basic Bush first Aid.
Bush Navigation


I passed the rigorous physical and mental testing process (Endurance hike, water-test, knowledge test) to earned my
Blue Beret and subsequently qualified for the elite A1 Platoon, where I was appointed as Sergeant in charge.
