Steve Merrill watches on as his wife's dog Jack and Sara Lemmer's dog Pepsi work on a scent in a road ditch. It was Steve's first trip to South Dakota for pheasant hunting and I am sure it probably won't be his last. He started the trip of by getting one of the first birds on Friday the 1st and sharing a second bird with Brad Curtis. |
Steve's English Setter Ralph poses for the camera and tests the wind for a scent as Steve puts away the gear after a long hunt. Jack and Pepsi are also shown as they grab a well deserved drink of water. It was the first trip for the Steve's English Setters to the prairie as well but you wouldn't know it by the way they worked. They were a very welcome addition to the hunt and provided many highlights to the trip as they pointed out many of the birds that were shot. Pepsi also did quite well for such a young lab (roughly 10 months old at the time of the hunt) and retrieved quite a few birds for the guys as well. |
Steve, Henry Tate, Jack and Pepsi look on as they wait for Ralph to finish working a part of the field as the sun begins to sink and the shadows lengthen. |
One of Steve's dog is shown here on point. One of the many points that they had throughout the days of hunting. |
