The ZGMF-1017 GINN is the mainstay mobile suit of ZAFT forces. Its basic armament consists only of a assault rifle and close combat sword. Used by all ZAFT forces (except field commanders), the GINN is superior to all types of ground-based armor and vehicles as well as any military attack aircraft. ZGMF is an acronym meaning "Zero Gravity Maneuver Fighter."

Mobile Suit Description:
The higher performance commander use ZAFT mobile suit, the ZGMF-515 CGUE is based on the GINN, but the design is more refined and sleeker. While possessing less armor than the GINN, the CGUE has greater mobility and acceleration. Its armament has also been inproved with a gatling-type weapon and close combat sword.
MMI-M8A3 assault rifle - A mobile suit handheld, recoil-operated, magazine-fed, bullpup toploading design, in caliber 76x385 millimeter. 40-round box magazine. Fires APSV rounds @ 800 RPM. Maximum effective range on point targets 1.5 kilometers and on area targets 1.8 kilometers. Muzzle velocity 1900 meters per second. Maximum penetration 1800 millimeters RHA @ 1 km. Effective on all forms of ground armored vehicles and aerial targets.
MA-M3 battle sword - All purpose close-combat weapon. Mobile suit handheld; alloy composite blade construction. Maximum slashing penetration: 0.8 meters RHA. Maximum thrusting penetration: 1.0 meters RHA. Overall sword length: 9.8 meters. Stored on left hip mount.
Optional Handheld Armament:
M69 Walrus heavy particle cannon - This high-energy mobile suit weapon has uses in anti-armor and anti-warship missions. A long and unwieldy weapon not suitable for CQB, the heavy particle cannon is fired from an over-the-shoulder position, and its power is greatly destructive, causing the very matter it hits to dematerialize or cause detonation on more solid materials. Its firing rate is limited, but the heavy particle cannon is extremely accurate. The weapon's power is supplied from a rear energy pack.
M66 Canis missile launcher - The short-range anti-warship guided missiles are carried two to a launcher, and the operating mobile suit can carry two such launchers, one for each hand. The missiles pose a serious threat for battleships and other large vessels. A single hit can cause massive damage and could incapacitate the target ship. These missiles are unsuited to smaller targets such as MS and MA. The missiles are guided to the locked target after fire.

M68 Pardeus missile pods - Mounted on either off the GINN's legs below the knee joint, these short-range missile pods carry three guided missiles each. The missile itself is designated as MSSRAPM (Mobile Suit Short Range All Purpose Missile), and can cause significant damage to its target. The missiles may be fired from the pod singly or as a group.
M7070 gatling cannon - Forearm-mounted, triple-barrelled, rotating gatling cannon in caliber 28x140 millimeter. Dual 250-round box magazines, located on top and bottom of weapon reciever. Fires 1200 RPM. Maximum effective range on point targets: 1.2 kilometers and on area targets 1.45 kilometers. Muzzle velocity 1700 meters per second. Maximum penetration 600 millimeters RHA @ 1 km. Effective on forms of ground armored vehicles, aerial targets and potential enemy mobile suits.
