Marg's Music Studio

This page is about my music studio, where I teach piano and theory, and most importantly a love and appreciation for music, along with the skill and passion to create and perform it. A lofty ideal, I know, but well worth the effort. My door is open to anyone who wants to learn of his/her own accord, and is willing to work hard. Making progress is most often the result of teamwork, with the teacher, student and family/friends all taking an integral part. Parents and/or other family/friends, even if they have little knowledge of music, can make a great difference just by listening, encouraging, and praising the student. Helping to schedule regular, uninterupted practice times is also extremely important. The student must occasionally be prepared to give up other activities in favour of practising, but this should not be a regular occurence. The teacher must create an environment for success in the lesson, while still creating challenge. We must get to know our students, particularly their most effective style of learning, and adjust our teaching methods accordingly. I often think how lucky I am to be in a "one-on-one" situation, where not only can I adapt to a particular student's needs, but continue to work with them over a number of years. And through those years, I believe I have learned as much as they.
