HOW TO PERFORM SALAT AL-FAJR |
||||||||
1 | |
Make Niyyah. Say to yourself that you intend to offer this Salat al Fajr, Fard of 2 rakats. | ||||||
2 |
|
Look at the ground in the location where you will place your forehead, then raise your hands to your ears (ladies lift their hands up to their shoulders) and say: اللّهُ أكبر Allahu akbar God is Great |
||||||
3 |
|
Now place your right hand on the left, just below, above or on the navel (ladies placing their hands on their chest), and say:
A'udhu Billahi Min ash-Shaitan ir-Rajeem
Bismillahir ramanir rahim |
||||||
4 |
|
Now bow down saying: اللّهُ أكبر Allahu akbar God is Great Place both your hands on your knees and in this inclined position (Ruku as shown in the figure) recite these words three times: Subhana rabbi al adheem Glory to my Lord The Great. |
||||||
5 |
|
Then come to the standing position saying: Sami' Allahu liman hamida. Rabbana lakal hamd. Allah has heard all who praise Him. Our Lord, for You is all praise. |
||||||
6 |
|
Now, while saying "Allahu Akbar", prostrate on the ground. Position yourself so that your forehead, knees, nose and palms of both hands are all touching the ground. Toes should be bent forwards, pointing towards the Qiblah. Elbows should also not touch the ground. Allahu akbar God is Great In this position, repeat these words three times at least: Subhana rabbi- al 'ala Glory to my Lord The Most High. |
||||||
7 |
|
Raise your head and sit upright with knees still on the ground, saying: اللّهُ أكبر Allahu akbar God is Great When you sit, tuck your left foot under your right foot, bent towards the right; make sure that it is vertical to the mat with the toes touching the mat. The palms should be lifted from the mat and placed on the knees. Left hand on left knee, and right hand on right knee (as shown in the figure) Rest for a moment in this position. Now go down into the second Sajdah, saying: اللّهُ أكبر Allahu akbar God is Great In the second Sajdah, as before, recite the following words three times: Subhana rabbi- al 'ala Glory to my Lord the Most High. Raise your head again, and sit upright with knees still on the ground, saying: اللّهُ أكبر Allahu akbar God is Great |
||||||
This completes one rakat of Salah for Fajr. Now we begin the second ra'kat.
The second rakat is said in the same way, except that after the second Sajdah (as above), you sit back and don't get up again. |
||||||||
8 |
|
Rise to the standing position again, saying: اللّهُ أكبر Allahu akbar God is Great |
||||||
9 |
|
Now, again look at the ground in the location where you will place your forehead. Place your right hand on the left again, just below, above or on the navel (ladies placing their hands on their chest), and
recite the opening Surah Al-Fatiha:
A'udhu Billahi Min ash-Shaitan ir-Rajeem

At tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibatu, as-salamu'alaika ayyuhan-Nabbiy wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.
Allahumma inni zalamtu nafsi zulman kathiran, wa la yaghfirudh-dhunuba illa Anta, faghfir li maghfiratan min 'indika, warhamni, innaka Antal Ghafur-ur Rahim
Rabbij'alni muqimas-salati wamin dhur-riyyati. Rabbana wa taqabbal du'a. Rabban aghfirli wali-walidayya wal-lil-mu'minina yauma yaqumul hisab.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhabi jahannam, wa min 'adhabil-qabr, wa min fitnatil-mahya wal-mamat, wa min fitnatil-masihid-Dajjal. 15 |
|
Now turn your face to the right and say: | اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ Assalamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah Peace be on you and mercy of Allah. Then turn your face to the left, and repeat, saying: Assalamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah Peace be on you and mercy of Allah. |
