  The Duke of Connaught's second child and oonly son, Prince Arthur, was born on January 13, 1883, at Windsor Castle. He served as Aide-du-camp to four sovereigns: his uncle Edward VII, his cousin George V and his nephews Edward VIII and George VI.
    In 1913, he married the daughter of his cousin Louise, Duchess of Fife, Princess Alexandra, who sparang out as one of the most elegant members of the Royal Family, and was devoted to nursing. During World War I, she served as a nurse in St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington until 1918.
   In 1920, Prince Arthur was appointed Governor- General of South Africa wherer Princess Alexandra worked on behalf local hospitals. On 1925 she received the badge of the Royal Red Cross.
   Arthur and Alexandra had only one son: Alastair Arthur, who was born in 1914 and who was given the title of Earl of MacDuff.
    At the beggining of 1938, a cancer was detected on Prince Arthur He went to Switzerland to have some cure. On September 2, 1938, the Duke of Connaught visited his son at his home in Belgrave Square. He found him sleeping, he sat by his bed for ten minutes but Arthur did not awake; if he had, perhaps he would have not recognized his father. The Duke thanked God that his son seemed not to be in pain. Later on he commented that Prince Arthur had always been an affectinate son. He died on September 12. His son Alastair Arthur became his grandfather's heir at the Duke's death in 1942. According to his grandfather the Duke of Connaught, Alastair Arthur was a "nice sensible boy, not wanting in brains...careless an unpunctual and do not concentrate on his work..." When Alastair Arthur was in Canada on active service, he was found dead in his room on April 26, 1943; his death was caused by hypothermia. With Alastair Arthur's death the title of Duke of Connaught became extinct.
