RICHARD TORRY

One of the great pleasures I have when in London is to be able to spend some time at Richard Torry's place. He lives right in the heart of Soho, in Old Compton Street. A true original Blitz Kid, like his music, Richard has an incredible approach to art, he is so original and disarming for the beautiful simplicity in everything he does. The floor of his kitchen is a prove of that; anyone coming to his place and into his kitchen will be walking in a superb piece of art. Richard collected several images throughout the years and decided to put them as a collage in his kitchen floor...images range from nudes to all kinds of subjects....including piss. He started his kitchen work in 1990, and almost 18 years later, this piece is still so striking, it gets better with age. Although some of the images are not longer there, as the one of Leigh Bowery next to the small refrigerator (photo by Alex Hanson above for the book We Love You), the floor which is completely covered has so much to look at as you can see in the photos I took of it. Richard also collect newspapers headlines.
