| Samhain Ritual |

| Things you will need to perform the ritual: one orange candle one black candle incense (Samhain is best, but a good patchouli can work nicely) cauldron apple pen and paper drink (can be wine, apple juice or even ale) cookies or cake (it's better if they are made from pumpkin) basket of leaves Cast a circle. Light orange and black candles. Stand with a basket of leaves before your alter. Slowly scatter the leaves while saying: "Welcome Persephone Queen of the underworld. Now is the time of your life with your beloved Hades, King of the underworld. We bid farewell to Demetor until spring. Come forth Hecate, Queen of all witches, for now is the time when the veil grows thin between the worlds. Now is the time of the dead and of rest. Hellios rides his chariot home. He shall return for Yule. Now is the time for the Mother Earth to rest, for we have gathered the harvest of her abundance and we understand that there can be no life without death. We have sown the seeds, both bad and good, and now is the time to banish what we do not want. Now is the time to plant the seed of what we do want, so it may grow next spring." 1) Say: "The way the leaves fall from the trees, the things that are negative we banish these." Light the paper up on the black candle, the paper with the things you want gone from your life on it. Place the burning paper in the cauldron. 2) Say: "As new life will grow after death, we bring in the good with our very breath." With the flame from the orange candle, light up the paper with the things you want to bring into your life on it. Place the burning paper in the cauldron. Hold up the apple and say: "Behold the fruit of death that we may learn from it. As the flesh of the apple so is all human flesh." Cut the apple open and say: "Behold the five pointed star, the star of man and women, the star of the elements and spirit". "The star of reincarnation." Place filled goblet on pentacle and raise up high and say: "To the God and Goddess" "We thank you for our harvest and for our rest". "We offer this drink so that we may receive thy blessings in the name of the God and the Goddess so mote it be." Place the plate of cakes on the alter and say: "Oh great God of the harvest and Mother Earth we give you thanks for your abundance". "Bless these cakes with joy and good health for all." Hand out the cakes and the drink first. Let everyone drink from the goblet and eat of the first cake. Then hand out cups, and cakes for all. Each person should offer some of their drink up to a beloved departed person. This should be done by pouring a few drops into the cauldron. Then close the circle. |
