ELIZABETH SELF4 (MARY3, JOHN2, EDWARD1b.   1820, AL  m.  abt 1834 in Walker Co., GA, JOHN NICHOLSON CHASTAIN    b.  abt 1818, NC  Occupation:  Farmer    We lost track of Elizabeth and John after 1860.  According to family tradition they moved to Arbuckle Island in Sebastian Co., AR near Franklin Co., AR.  We have no records to support this information.  Anyone having information on this familly please contact Forrest & Bea Self.  (Also may email at end of page to Judy Coykendall)   John:  John was the son of Rainey and Mary Nicholson Chastain.   1850 Walker Census list Rainey Chastain, 57.  John and Elizabeth moved to Saline County, AR in the mid 1850's and raised a large family there.  John is reported to have 4 brothers:  Edward Jordan, Benjamin LaFayette, Rainey Jr. and William Edgar.  He had 3 sisters:  Elizabeth Denton, Emily and Mary.  The data concerning this family comes from 1860 Census, Saline Co., AR., Beaver Tnsp. Hickory Flat P.O.

DYKES   b.  14 Sept 1830, GA    d.  6 Mar 1894, near Waldron, Scott Co., AR    Accordin to famiy traditin he was a business man and civic leader.  He owned a general store, a saw mill, a cotton gin and grist mill.  He donated the land & sawed the lumber for the Greenridge school and church.  He had a retarded son, James, and records show he provided for this son in his will.  Ellen and "Frank" Bottoms took over the business after Joseph's death and they took care of James.  Joseph was in the Civil War and was captured at Vicksburg, MS.    He homestead 120 acres in 1876, Sscott Co., AR.  1870 Catoosa Co., GA Census.  Mary:  In the 1870 GA census a Margaret (Duke) Dyke, age 72, was living in the household.  Probably Mary J.'s mother.
