| JACOB ORCUTT (CYRUS, JACOB) was born Jan. 07, 1834 in Marcy, Oneida Co., N.Y. and died May 27, 1915, in Grant Twp., Cerro Gordo Co., Iowa. He married MARY ANN SMITH, April 10, 1858 in Fredonia, Chaut. Co., N.Y., daughter of WILLIAM SMITH and CLARISSA WEAVER of Sheridan, Chaut. Co., N.Y. She was born May 17, 1837 in Arkwright, Chaut. Co., N.Y. and died May 24, 1906 in Grant Twp., Cerro Gordo Co., Iowa. |
| More about JACOB ORCUTT: Jacob left N.Y. with his family about 1862/63, probably accompanied by his younger brother Ezra and headed first to Lyle, Minnesota, then by 1867 to Northwood, Worth Co., Iowa. He and wife Mary are listed along with brother Ezra in the 1870 census for Northwood Twp. By 1880, Jacob and family were in Fertile Twp., Worth Co., Iowa and by 1900, he and several of his sons had settled in Grant Twp., Cerro Gordo Co., Iowa. Probably just prior to his heading West, Jacob sold land in Hanover, Chaut. Co., N.Y. on Sept. 02, 1862. No doubt, the Land Act of 1862 was the driving force for Jacob and Ezra to head West.
