The average life-span of an Iguana can range from 12-20 years depending on the care they recieve. I met one person who's Ig lived to be 26. They can grow to a length of 5-6 feet within three to four years! Therefore, an Iguana needs an enclosure that's 1.5 - 2 times it's total length. You need a UVB light and your basking temps need to be 88-95 degrees on the warmer side with the cooler side around 75 degrees. Night temps should be between 70 and 85 degrees. The heat and UVB are vital in helping your Ig digest his food and will prevent the devastating Metabolic Bone disease so many are plagued with. Your Iguana WILL NOT grow if it is not housed properly!

This is a cage we built for our Juvies (young Iguanas) that we take in. As you can see, Junior has room to grow but not for long. Within six months or so, he will outgrow this cage. We are using Reptisun's 5.0 UVB light and an incandescant bulb for heating purposes. Heating pads are o.k on a low setting and in-between a towel or inside a pillowcase. ABSOLUTELY NO HOT ROCKS SHOULD BE USED!!!! THEY ARE DANGEROUS AND CAN CAUSE SEVERE BURNS!!!!
