You are looking at spending a lot of cash when owning an Iguana. They are high maintenance pets and most people dive headfirst (kinda like me *grin*) without knowing what they are going to experience down the road. Here are some of the expenses we have incured along the way. Enclosure: $200.00 + (home-made) Lighting: $150 (UVB should be replaced every six-8 months) Substrate: $50 for indoor outdoor carpet strips and vinyl tiles. Artificial decor: $40 for Fake Tree, vines and driftwood. Vet Visits: $30 a pop. Male Neutered: $550. Female xrayed for eggs x 2:$85 Fecal Exams: $15 (And that's pretty cheap!) Pet Carrier: $30-60 Depending on Ig's size Food: $5-10 + per week (and that's only for one 5 yr. old lizard) Misc. Items: $38 Reptarium for outdoor sunning, (Only safe for smaller igs. Larger may tear through the screen. $50-100 Break down cage for sunning larger igs $4.50 for thermometer to gage temps in cage, $$$for heat lights, dome fixtures and humidifier. Larger Electric Bill Blood work-up: Can cost up to $150.00 And last but not least, Time. A lot of this is a rough estimate of what we have put out in the past. Every enclosure is different. Yours could cost more or less depending on size, etc. I probably left stuff out but as you can see, it is a big commitment! |
