This is Turk, a female iguana. She really is beautiful and a nice bright green. She's probably around 3 1/2 years old and has been with us for 13 months now.. She eats like a horse and is so impatient at feeding time that she'll come right up on your lap to eat. She's a little squirmy. She'll allow you to pet her but doesn't care to be held much without wanting to get down.
Turk surprised us with a clutch of 39 eggs in November of 2003. She came through just fine. Female Iguanas become what's called gravid every year and will lay whether or not they have been with a male. In this case Turk's eggs were not fertilized and were thrown away. We do not advocate hatching fertilized eggs due to the fact that only a small percentage of iglets survive to adulthood. This is primarily caused by ignorance and poor care.
Turk will be remaining with our family for now as we have grown seriously attatched to her. She is available for adoption to someone with experience with iguanas. |
