Mr. Wong's Movie Reviews |

Homer Simpson - "I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to speed around the city, keeping its speed over fifty, and if it's speed dropped, it would explode! I think it was called the bus that couldn't slow down." |

Matrix Revolutions (Action) - 2003 - R
Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Laurence Fishburne, Hugo Weaving, Jada Pinkett-Smith
Summary:
This film is of course the third in a trilogy. Here the machines are working their way to invading Zion. As the humans set about to defend their home, Neo is off to visit the home of the machines. Hopefully he can bring an end to war between man and machine.
Review:
Yeah so this is another ones you're probably going to have to recommend to your parents, Lots of flashing, graphics and animations, which was good. But you could totally leave without having watched the last 20 minutes of the movie ... one of those typical storybook Hollywood endings with little thought. But if mindless violence and fight scenes is your thing, that I'm sure this movie would amuse you.

Review:
Would I pay full price for this movie? Nope. Would I go on Tuesday to watch this? Nope. Would I rent this? Nope. Would I watch this on TV when the TV networks paid the rights to show it? Maybe if there wasn't any Simpsons on TV. No thinking was required, movie was just too predictable.

Review:
While those who have read the book may have a difference of opinion, this movie is full of surprises and twists. If you're looking for a movie where you just have to sit there and not think ... ummm ... this one might not be for you. This is a courtroom drama where the drama does not come from what happens in the courtoom but happens outside it.

Pirates of the Carribean (Action) - 2003 - PG - 13
Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush, Jack Davenport, Keira Knightley
Summary:
Set in the Caribbean Sea in the 17th century, this is the story of a gentleman rogue of a pirate, Jack Sparrow, who teams up with the daughter of a governor to stop the evil plan of a ship of dangerous pirates who are trying to reverse an ancient curse that leaves them stuck between life and death, with the light of the moon revealing their skeletons, like some kind of undead monsters.
Review:
If swashbuckling, rope-swinging, plank-walking, yard-arm-spinning, rum-drinking, double-crossing, colourful sidekick-joking, and all-around yo-ho-ho-ing sounds like fun, then this movie is for you, or at least a trip to Disney World to see their theme park. It's an enjoyable movie, as long as you're not interesting in thinking.

The Italian Job (Action) - 2003 - PG - 13
Mark Walberg, Edward Norton, Charlize Theron, Mos Def, Seth Green, Donald Sutherland
Summary:
A band of theives, led by Charlie Croker, pulls off the ultimate heist by rigging the stoplights of the city of Los Angeles so that they can drive right out of the city with a carful of gold. The gold is in a safe that they're stealing back after Croker's double-crossing ex-partner stole it from Croker first. They get nothing but greenlights, while everyone else gets redlights, thus keeping the roads plugged with the largest traffic jam in L.A. history, and the police from pursuing the,. Aiding their escape are modified BMV Mini Coopers so they can use sidewalks and the subway system.
Review:
Mark Walberg has returned once again to remake another classic. Though since the release of "The Fast and the Furious", it seems that everyone needs to have a standard car chase with suped up cars. Though the plot is predictable, the characters themselves add class and character, even with us discovering who truely invented Napster.

Finding Nemo (Animated) - 2003 - G
(Voices) Albert Brooks, Alexander Gould, Ellen DeGeneres, Eric Bana, Erica Beck, Willem Dafoe
Summary:
The film follows the comedic and eventful journeys of two fish - Marlin and his son Nemo - who become separated in the Great Barrier Reef when Nemo is unexpectedly taken far from home and thrust into a fish tank in a dentist's office overlooking Sydney harbor. Buoyed by the companioship of a friendly-but-forgetful fish named Dory, the overly cautious father embarks on a dangerious trek and finds himself the unlikely hero of an epic journey to rescue his son - who hatches a few daring plans of his own return dafely home.
Review:
Pixar studios has done a brillant job with backdrop of the colourful undersea world. A fun film, which deals with the issues of disability and the parent-child relationship. These challenges to the parent-child relationship allow us to relate to Nemo. There are no villians or bad guys, as the danger comes from a child's thoughtlessness and from natural perils. Even the terrifying sharks gently remind each other that "we don't eat our friends."

Bruce Almighty (Comedy) - 2003 - PG - 13
Jim Carrey, Morgan Freeman, Jennifer Aniston, Catherine Bell
Summary:
Having a particularly bad day, persistent complainer and Buffalo TV news correspondent Bruce Nolan curses God for all that's wrong in the world... so the Almighty confronts him, and challenges him to try to do a better job. Bruce proceeds to use His Divine powers in a variety of ways, some of which help him, som of which hurt his foes, and hopefully... some of which actually help people who believe in Him.
Review:
Jim Carrey definately pulls of this role. You could not ask for a better role, where a man who is given all of God's powers and has no qualms about using them for cheap thrills and petty payback. This is a modern day comedic version of the annual Christmas special, "It's a Wonderful Life". It makes us wonder what we would do with Divine powers?

2 Fast 2 Furious (Action) - 2003 - PG - 13
Paul Walker, Tyrese Gibson, Cole Hauser, Ludacris, Eva Mendes, James Remar, Devon Aoki, Thom Barry
Summary: Ex-cop Brian O'Conner has left his job in LA to live in Miami. He races on the streets for money. When given a choice between being arrested or going undercover to get the goods on a sleazy bad guy, Brian agrees to pose as a sriver, as long as he can team up with Roman Pearce.
Review: Alright, so in all likelihood this movie isn't going to win any Oscars. But was it worth promising to see "Legally Blonde 2" just so I could see this one? If you're into cars, then this movie is definately for you. The only problem is that there are more domestic cars and not enough imports. The entire culture of car enthusiast (Note: that I did not use street racers), is based upon imports. Still, the neon lights, shiny parts and flying metal should be enough to impress most.
