Darla feels we are all increasingly vulnerable - clothes should make us feel strong, confident and protected. Hence her interest in armoury.
Darla has always been industrious. At sixteen she gave up her Saturday job. ´It was so bored that I got myself a market stall, to sell things I had made. I earned twice as much money and learned twice as much. As a result I feel confident about making a living now, despite this so called recession. I belive if what you´ve got is really good, then someone will always want it.
´ I´m not precious about my clothes, they aren´t one-off art objects, but neither do I want depersonalised factory clothes. I hope I´ll be one of a new breed of people who will change things. We must escape the monster of mass production and the over-priced elitism of ´couture´ clothes. I want people to make up their own minds, and if they want my clothes, then that´s great !´
