In a ruling by US District  Judge Jed Rakoff last month, The Defence Department has finally relaeased the names and nationalities of  about 300 of the 500 guests now Spending their vactaional years in

Guantanamo Bay Facility. For four years the Bush administration has hidden the names and nationalities of the inmates

although people like Mamdouh Habibe and David Hicks were already known.. The action comes as The Associated Press had filed for a Freedom of Information Act on the DoD to Force disclosure of the names.  It  was finalised by the action of handing over a computer Disk with the information contained within. The Court order forced the DoD to comply with the Order to make the list known "before March 3rd" INCOMPLETE Although the detainee  list is far from complete since the first residents arrived bound and gagged  from Afghanistan in Jan 2002, it is the first comprehensive list of people ever releasedabout the actual "people detained". The information also includes 5000 pages of documents relating to the current Military Panel hearings taking place. A senior Pentagon official has said the number of detainees is actually  490 but the documents only listing 317.  Guantanamo was opened 3 months after the US invaded Afghanistan.
