I am attracted by things that not only are beautiful to my eyes but also that intrigues my mind. A Brazilian performance artist named Leopold Nunan, who lives in Los Angeles recently created a Zebra look for one of his stage presentations. I must say it is beyond superb, and it must be shared with you my colleagues.
Leopold who is influenced by Grace Jones, Klaus Nomi, Nina Simone, Denise Stoklos, Angeline Preljocaj, Caetano Veloso, Boy George among others had his first contact with art when a young kid doing TV ads, being a classic and modern dancer was just a step away of course. Opening for artists like Mount Simmons and Lady Miss Kier(Deee-Lite) as a singer he has proven that House Music can be sung live. He has created over 500 characters for the stage transforming himself from macho samba dancer to surreal clown or harlequin, from a diaphanous angel to a fearsome tribal chief, from cabaret character, classic vaudevillian or haute couture prancer to goofy nerds... The Zebra look for his originality and perfection was chosen to be in the page dedicated to make-up in the second issue of Gazelland Magazine. His ability to imitate the animal is incredible, going to the extreme of using a device in the mouth so that the similarity would be even bigger. The make up work by Marisa Caichiolo from Argentina is outstanding complemented by the hair styling of Fernando Haddad. GAZELLE COLUMN MENU |
