History of The Rugen
The story of the Reich goes back to January 22, 1994 when a small group of Finnish, British, Norwegien, Swedish, German, and Dane people from the Upper Penninsula of Michigan got together and created a small "Micronation". A sort of escape for them to have fun with and express ideas and new concepts of change that they thought the whole world would benifit from. They called their country Nordenland, or North in Scandinavian. It was their shinning achievment and all thirty of them were very pleased in what they had accomplished.

The group grew and created a more formal nation with a constitution and more direct leadership and a more structured system. Then in 1996 they created their first web page. It was going to be their tool to get their word of peace and new ideals to the world that was growing and opening in the World Wide Web. The site was lacking and had only a few items on it. Then in 1998 a new and fresher blood of younger people joined the Nordenland and updated the site at Xoom. They created a more conservative government and a more right wing leadership base.

In late 1998 the leadership of the Coalition government, which had been the type of governing system they used, under leadership of Jon Michalean, the Michalean Government, broke to a newer political party made up of workers of the Nordenland, the N.N.W.P. or the National Norden Workers Party, the workers party won a landslide of votes and got many representatives elected to the Bundestag, or the Federal Assembly.

With the new blood in the Norden the country seemed to be bright with fresh ideas and new involvment. In early March, 1999 the Chancellor's Election was held and the leader of the now N.R.W.P. now changed to Rugen, Marc Hill, a General in the WV, or Rugen Army, won in a huge majority. The growing tide in the country wanted a new face for the country and they chose to have Rugen to be their new identity. The Rugen was chosen for the Rugen River in northern Germany where a lot of the citizens had come from. Mr. Hill won his new Chancellorship against the Liberal candidate, Hans Stike, who was the former leader of the Liberal Party in the Rugen and a friend to Michalean. He would be the last Liberal candidate in the new Rugen for some 2 years.

During the new changes in early 1999, the Bundestag voted on letting the nation of Sudatenland, or South in Scandinavian, which ws another U.P. group into the new Rugen and voted on becomeing a Reich or Empire in German. The vote was confirmed and the Reich now had two provinces along with a new blood of some fifteen people. In the summer of 1999 the elections were held and Marc Hill was re-elected to his second term as Reich Chancellor.

Mr. Hill implimented a drastic change in the policies of the Rugen. He wanted a Foreign Ministry which we had never had before, he changed the amount of representatives in the Federal Assembly, and he renamed the Bundestag the Reichstag a Reich Assembly. The system of multiple political parties was killed and the Nationalist Party was the only party allowed. He also established a new homepage for the Reich. And brought the Rugen into the League of Secessionist States, LoSS.

In late 1999 Reich Chancellor Marc Hill under pressure from his advisers and from his people declared that the 4th Rule of the Articles of Confederation dead and killed the single party system and renewed the multi party system. He himself then created the Christian Conservative Union or CCU. In the following months it was brought out that a small group of his advisers had stolen a large amount of money from the National Bank and had illegally used that money to help fund the CCU Reichstag now Rugenstag elections. An investigation into the errors and the governments denial of any wrong doing went on for 2 months until December 30th, 1999 when ammid talk of impeachment Marc Hill resigned as Reich Chancellor and appointed Sarah Jane, the former Reichstag  Speaker as President until new elections could be made.

In January of 2000 Mr. Hill left office and then new President Sarah Jane, declared the Reich dead and re-established the Republic. In an emergency election in January a new administration was elected with Sarah Jane heading it as President.  It was a difficult battle for Ms. Jane to reunite the people and to give faith back in the government and history of the nation. In June 2000 new elecetions went ahead and President Jane did not seek re-election.

In June 2000, Mike Lansing became President and the new Speaker of the Rugenstag was Adam Smith. This new administration did not do much. And was a reflection of the entire Micronational World which had died down.

In January of 2001, Bill Riker was elected President on a renewel platform. He wanted hope, triumph, and drive to make the Rugen a greater and better place. He established a national stock market to trade in the business affairs of the nation and he also is establishing a national Mp3 exchange.

By June of 2001 Mr. Riker had done what he set out to do and following his campaign promise to not seek re-election he steped down. Adam Smith then was elected by a close vote to the Presidency.

Mr. Smith's administration did little to grow the Rugen and it was during his Presidency that we witnessed a decline in population and the events of September 11th. Following a short election. Mr. Smith was defeated by a landslide vote for the former President and one time Reich Chancellor Marc Hill back into office in January of 2002. Mr. Hill revised the constitution and made many changes to the Rugen Nation. He was re-elected in June of 2002 and is currently seeking re-election in January of 2003.
