The NortheastIron race series started the 2007 season may 6th at Pocono south.  Refined car setups as well as cool sunny weather provided some fast laps including a new lap record.
Bill Headley qualified in the top position with a record setting 49.859 lap.  Defending champion Rob Avati qualified in the number 4 spot with a 51.525 qualifying effort.  At the green Headley motored away going unchallenged.  Frank Rossi, who started second, ran into trouble early with a spin costing him two positions.  Al Watson and Rob Avati were in a battle most of the race for the second spot.  At one point Avati brushed the back bumper of Watson.  Eventually Avati passed Watson cleanly for the number 2 spot.  Several laps latter Watson took advantage of lap traffic and passed Avati.  However Avati quickly retook the second spot as Watson had transmission issues.  Watson kept on Avati but locked them up in the brake zone and got into the back of Avati.  The two kept it straight and Avati held onto 2nd place leaving Watson in 3rd.  At the checkered Headley was the man to beat claiming the win and lap record.

Coming up next is Hyperfest at Summit Point June 23rd and 24th.
