Thanks to the staff of NortheastIron and Emra for putting on a great event! Unofficial Qualifying results: Saturday: 1st - Bill Headley 1:24.731 * Sunday race grid set by 2nd - Al Watson 1:25.560 saturdays finishing order. 3rd - Frank Rossi 1:25.999 4th - Team Mohr 1:39.907 Unofficial Race results: Saturday: 1st - Bill Headley Sunday: 1st - Bill Headley 2nd - Al Watson 2nd - Frank Rossi 3rd - Team Mohr 3rd - Al Watson 4th - Frank Rossi 4th - Team Mohr The NortheastIron racers met up for the season finale at Emra's summit point event. Aside from the two NEI sprint races, Emra held a 4 hour twilight enduro on saturday evening and a time trial on sunday afternoon which provided some good spectating. Saturday's mornings practice was cold and slick as racers where trying to figure out the new pavement on the summit main circuit. Mid mornings qualifying went well as the track got some warmth in it and the dew dried up. Bill Headley took the pole with a 1:24.731 run. Al Watson qualified second with a 1:25.560, Frank Rossi's 1:25.999 third followed by Team Mohr's 1:39.907 fourth. As the green was thrown at saturdays rolling start, racers where darting every which way going three wide in many places. Watson put two wheels off at the tower to avoid contact letting Rossi get by on the inside. At turn 1 hard on the brakes Watson was again forced outside, this time in the mud. Headley was out front with Rossi attemping to chase him down. Mohr started at the back of the pack but was quickly gaining ground. A few laps later Rossi's tires didnt have the grip and Watson got by under braking in one and resumed the second spot. Late in the race Mohr got by Rossi for third and had his sites on Watson. Headley running some serious lap times still commanded the lead. On lap 18 a BMW rolled in the carousel landing bottom up on top of the tire barrier bringing out the red flag and eventually the end of the race. Headley took the win and new race lap record of 1:23.376 with Watson second, Mohr third and Rossi fourth. Sunday mornings race grid was set by saturdays finishing order. During the morning warmup laps some scatter light rain had set in. Watson and Mohr took a gamble with a rain tire setup while Headley and Rossi stayed on dry's. Just prior to the race the rain had stopped. At the green the track was dry, Watson and Mohr started to fade back but Rossi kept on Headley. Headley kept up a killer pace and took the win. Rossi couldn't get to Headley and settled for second while Watson took third and Mohr fourth. Coming up next is the awards dinner February 2nd 2008. |
