John Beck was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 28th, 1943 and grew up in Evanston and Jolliet. As child he was very shy and never thought to become an actor. His dream was to help animals. He lived on a farm and his first real interest and one that he maintained for more than two days was in animal husbandry. But then he played a little character in a school play and decided that he really like acting and wanted to pursue it. In 1964 he moved to California and had his first access by doing countless television commercials. One year later John began his actor career by starring in the series I dream of Jeannie. John guested on various television series like Bonanza, Lancer, Gunsmoke and Mission: Impossible and also played little parts in movies like Three in the Attic, Lawman and Sleeper (with starring Woody Allen). John had his first leading role in 1971 in the western series Nichols (with James Garner at his side). Sadly the series was cancelled after one season. At the beginning John played often heavies or jocks like Ketcham in Nichols or Moonpie in the cult movie Rollerball and so he was very glad to get the part of Bill Templeton in the movie Audrey Rose. Bill was an upper-income New Yorker faced by a strange stranger who claims that the soul of his death daughter Audrey Rose inhabits the body of Bill`s daughter Ivy. In the 70s John played in some Hollywood movies
(
Sky Riders, Big Bus, The Other Side of
Midnight
) and maybe he could have been a
film star but John has never encouraged a
full-fledged campaign about himself. He still
played in television series and in the year 1980
he played Sam Curtis in NBC`s first soap
Flamingo Road. Although the series had
many potential it was cancelled after two
seasons. Internationally he became known for
his part of Mark Graison in the soap
Dallas.
Mark was Pam`s new boyfriend. Bobby died
and Mark and Pam married. But Patrick
decided to go back to Dallas and John lost his
part. After Dallas John played in many tv
movies and series but never got a big part in a
Hollywood movie again. John never took over
the crowns worn by Robert Redford, Steve McQueen or Paul Newman but in the 90s he was one of televisions busiest actors.

Since 1971 John is married with Tina, a former british model. They met each other in Mexico when they worked together on the movie Lawman. The Becks have one son named Tara James and three daughters named Tatiana, Talia and Natasha.
