This is of course only our opinion, but it seems to this writer that this school is a scam being used to sell the parents of Tracy on adopting a single track YRE schedule district wide...

More Discovery Spin

Dear Editor,

I start asking questions about the Tracy Learning Center and the use of $40-70 Million in funds to build it and I end up in the middle of the Discovery Spin.

§ While it is true that the money to be spent to build the Learning Center could not be used to fix up Tracy High, it is also true that these are monies collected by the TUSD to build new schools to mitigate growth. To build up this "Pot of Money" how many kids and teachers are suffering today with Multi Track YRE? The kids on the West Side of town are subsidizing the Tracy Learning Center by going to school in shifts so we can build the second phase of someone's vision.

§ Mello-Roos money and developer growth fees will end up being used to build the great vision of the Tracy Learning Center. This will not be a school of choice, like DCS is now, it will be the only option for 2400 Tracy Children.

§ The TUSD is subsidizing the DCS. The Facility is being rented by TUSD to DCS for the sum of $1 a year. Also, TUSD maintenance staff has been doing repairs at DCS.

§ Now on Tuesday night there will a big TUSD Board meeting. Parents will be battling teachers over the Learning center. This is disgusting. This is also the legacy of our former Superintendent. As a parent, I think I will have to give our former Superintendent all D's. Divide, Distrust, Discord, and Deception. Quite an example to the Children of Tracy.

§ Tracy Learning Center is actually the starting point for the conversion of all Tracy Schools to Single Track YRE. The TUSD has carefully set this up so the DCS parents become avocates for the district position and if you dare say anything about the DCS, well you are attacking these people's children. Our former Superintendent suggested in a Newspaper article in 2001. He said that traditional Schools were passe' and all schools will be moving to single Track YRE. Our former Superintendent said this about YRE- "Parents have to learn to deal with it" (Tri- Valley Herald)

§ Teachers are battling to save their union. The District is using the Charter school law to "bust" the TEA.

If Parents wish to send their Children to DCS, God Bless them, that's what its there for, to give them a choice, but please don't expand it to a $40-70 Million gift to our former Superintendent and call it a choice.

We could build between 2 and 3 Traditional K-8 Schools for that amount of money. DCS could be moved to the Campus of West High. They could use the Portables vacated when the new Institute for Government and Global Commerce is completed.

We all win if we get real and stop the spin.
