| $70 Million TLC needs further discussion Dear Editor, From what I have read, the experimental, Year Round, visionary, K-12 School known as the Tracy Learning Center, will cost between $40-70 Million. Seems to me, we can build several traditional schools for that price and still have some money left over. I would like to see the full details of this project, as I believe we are committing far to quickly to the "vision" of our former superintendent without considering the long-term implications. For example, where is the "strapped" TUSD, getting this kind of money from? The model for the Learning Center evolved from a plan to educate prison inmates, and before we fully commit to this scheme and turn thousands of Tracy's children into "subjects", a full and complete public airing is needed. Has anyone asked the people of Tracy if they want a K-12, YRE school? Since in the past, TUSD's track record regarding openness and truthfulness has been less than stellar, perhaps a full disclosure of exactly what the consequences of building this school is needed. Not a sell job or a managed outcome or a directed focus group, but a real hearing of exactly wants going on and where the money is going. Anything less will just be another TUSD smoke screen. |
