          E.A. MELTON

Bastardy

                            This cause came on for further and final hearing before the worshipful County Court of Henderson County, Tennessee upon the petition of Tabitha White and proof in the cause and it appeared to the Satisfaction of the court that there is in the hands of the clerk of this Court the sum of sixty dollars paid into his hands by the defendent in this cause for the benefit of the mother and the support of the Bastard child of which the said defendent is charged with having begotten, and it further appearing to the court that the mother of said Bastard child has departed this life and that the said Tabitha White is the grandmother of said child and as such has the care management and raising of the same.  It is therefore ordered by the Court that the clerk of the Court pay over to the said Tabitha White the aforesaid.

A.D. 1861

                            Sum of sixty dollars to be appropriated by her to the support and benefit of said chld, be first retain out of said sum the cost of this proceeding and the receipt of said Tabitha White shall be a good voucher for said Clerk.

*The above E.A. was Ezekiel A. Melton (22 Nov 1830-26 Mar 1864)died in Henderson Co., TN.  He was the son of Abner G. Melton & Nancy Fortune.  His wife was Amanda J.___.
