HW-16 | |||||||||||||||||
Here is the HW-16 that I picked up along with the matching HG-10B vfo at our ham club auction for $40. A little history, the HW-16 came out the year that I got my Novice ticket in 1967. It is a 3 band transciever for 80-40-15m meters made espicially for the Novice Class license of that time peroid. Actually its not a transciever at all but seperate transmitter and reciever put in the same cabinet. It was manufactured from 1967 to 1976. It has a 50 to 90 watt input crystal controled transmitter that you could adjust the power output on. Back then Novices could only run 75watts input and had to be crystal controled. The reciever covered the bottom 250 khz of the band. |

And here is my HW-16. I see I have a smug on the dial plate, didn't notice that untill just now. hi
Who ever built my HW-16 did a very good job on it. Its kinda hard to see details here but its a very neat job. |

It looks like a little water has been on top of circuit board but that should clean up pretty easy. The transformer has a few rust spots on it. There are a couple of small rust spots on the chasis. Over all it looks in great condition for its age.
The HW-16 has been cleaned up and put on the air. It has a serious yooping problem and needs to be re-capped. I have the new filter capacitors for it and its a matter of just doing it. Of course as usual I have way too many irons in the fire. March 28, 2005 |
