ADMIRAL ACKBAR

Ackbar was a Mon Calamarian Rebel Navy Admiral. He was captured when the Empire took over Calamari, and was presented to Grand Moff Tarkin as a personal slave. He followed Tarkin around everywhere, all the while collecting information about the Imperial war machine, in hopes that he could escape and provide the knowledge to the Alliance. He gained limited knowledge about the Death Star in this fashion, enough to make him fear for the safety and future of the galaxy. When Tarkin decided to move to a permanent post on the Death Star, Ackbar was to be brought along with him. However, Tarkin's shuttle was attacked by an elite force whose goal was to assassinate Tarkin. They failed only when an Imperial Star Destroyer arrived to drive off the attackers, but they managed to rescue Ackbar in the attack. From that point on, Ackbar served the Alliance faithfully, using his knowledge of Imperial doctrine wherever possible. He was in command at the Battle of Endor, guiding the space battle over the second Death Star and drawing fire from the ships that were to destroy space station's central power core. Following the formation of the New Republic, Ackbar became one of the Republic's ruling member.

GENERAL CRIX MADINE

A Corellian General with the Alliance, his strict military background was formed during years of service to the Imperial Academy and the Empire. He took pride in the fact that, regardless of other Imperial squadrons' tactics, his team never took unnecessary liberties during a a battle. However, when he began to see that his personal tactics were never going to be accepted, he tried to accept the Empire's ways himself. When this failed, he erased all Imperial records of himself and sought out the Alliance. He made contact with his old friend, Carlist Rieekan, who put in some good words for him. When the Alliance accepted Madine, his Imperial training made him the logical choice to plan the assault on the second Death Star. There are rumors that the true reasons behind his defection deal with the receipt of a set of highly-criminal orders from Emperor Palpatine himself. They so assaulted his sensibilities that he left the Empire. After Endor, he turned down a seat in the New Republic's Inner Council, preferring to remain with the Republic's growing military. He became the Republic's commander of Special Forces, drawing together a crack team of commandos who were prepared to enter any situation for the sake of the Republic. Not many of his accomplishments are known, due to their often secret nature.

GENERAL HORTON SALM

A native of Norvall II, Salm was a decorated Y-Wing pilot who served the Alliance during the Galactic Civil War. He earned the rank of Colonel, and was given command of the Aggressor Wing shortly after the Battle of Endor, and led his Y-Wings during the Battle of Brentaal. After the battle, Salm was promoted to General. A small-statured man who believed in hard work and dedication to his cause, he disdained the exposure and fame given to Rogue Squadron, feeling that the hot-shot X-Wing pilots believed they were superior to Y-Wing pilots.

GENERAL AIREN CRACKEN

Airen Cracken was born on Contruum some fifty years before the Battle of Yavin. He grew up his parent's farm, and was particulary adept at modifying and fixing machinery. He later opened a mechanic's shop, and repaired everything from landspeeders to holoprojectors. He married a Corellian woman namde Josta, and they had two children before the Empire took control of Contruum. Airen and a group of supporters took to the hills, in an effort to thwart the Imperial forces at every turn. Josta set up safehouses, while "Cracken's Crew" crippled stardocks, sabotaged mining operations, and destroyed supply depots. As the Imperial commander began spending more and more time searching for specific saboteurs, the natives of Contruum developed their own militia. A hard-fought war was begun, and in the end, the Imperial Moff pulled out rather than waste more effort trying to subdue Contruum. Cracken recognized that the Empire was not as kind to other worlds in the galaxy, and decided to leave Josta and Contruum to fight for the Alliance. He provided valuable input during the early years of the Alliance, particularly in the areas of special forces operations. His knack for modifying devices to perform auxiliary tasks made him an invaluable teacher, and his bravery in the face of Imperial foes twice earned him the Nebula award. Cracken continued to serve the cause following the Battle of Endor, and became a respected statesman and military advisor for the New Republic. He was responsible for the New Republic's position when the Rogue Squadron pilots resigned their commissions, and also negotiated the transfer of the Virulence to Booster Terrik. When the Battle of Thyferra had been decided, Cracken informed Wedge Antilles that the Rogues' resignations were never actually processed, and they could have them back if the so desired.

GENERAL LARYN KRE’FEY

This Bothan male, a native of Bothawui, was a General in the New Republic Navy. He had dazzling white fur and golden eyes. It was Kre'fey who in charge of the first New Republic attempt to reclaim Coruscant, about two and a half years after the Battle of Endor. He began planning the military exercises needed to retake the planet, which included capturing certain worlds near the Coruscant System. The first of them was Borleias, which was retaken after two attempts and the loss of certain members of Rogue Squadron. Kre'fey himself was killed on Borleias in the battle. It was rumored that he was a distant relative of New Republic Council Borsk Fey'lya.

Story Factors:

Opportunist: Bothans, as a species, are very opportunistic and predatory.  They try to take advantage whenever possible, and also think that everyone who isn't allied with them is actively plotting against them.  As a result, they seem greedy, selfish, and paranoid to many other species.

Communication: Bothans can manipulate their fur to express emotions and further clarigy any statements they make.  In Bothan society, this ability is as important to communication as speech - the rippling conveys subtleties that mere words cannot express (or so Bothans believe).  Control requires practice and can be affected by strong emotion, just as it is often easy to tell if a human is angry by the tone of his voice.

CAPTAIN SAIR YONKA

This former Imperial Captain commanded the Avarice during the years after the Battle of Endor. Prior to serving under Ysanne Isard, he spent most of his career in the Outer Rim chasing pirates and protecting convoys. He was known as a smart and calculating officer, who worked to maximize his chances for survival. A native of Commenor, he grew up and fell in love with a woman named Aellyn, who later married Moff Riit Jandi after Yonka left for the Imperial Academy. When they met each other years later on Elshandruu Pica, they started an illicit affair with the help of Kina Margath. When word of this affair reached the ears of Wedge Antilles and Rogue Squadron, through the droid Poe, they used it to convince Yonka to renounce his Imperial commission and join the New Republic. He accepted Wedge's proposal, and brought the Avarice and most of its crew with him. Those crewmen who wished to remain in Imperial service hijacked a Lambda-class shuttle and forced Yonka's forces to destroy them. The Star Destroyer was renamed the Freedom and was the first ship to fire on the Lusankya during the Battle of Thyferra. However, the Freedom also took heavy damage, and was disabled and adrift at the end of the fighting.

CAPTAIN UWLLA IILLOR

She was one of the few females officers in the Imperial Navy, Uwlla was in command of the Interdictor?class starship Black Asp when it tried to intercept the Pulsar Skate. Her career in the Navy began after graduation with a series of assignments under Colonel Thrawn, patrolling the Unknown Regions, before she was given command of a Carrack?class cruiser. She probably wouldn't have progressed much beyond this point if it weren't for the Battle of Endor. The loss of so many Naval officers in the battles that followed required her to be promoted to Captain, and given her own command. However, the defeat of the Empire at Borleias seemed to raise some concerns among her crew and the Imperial leaders. When several personnel transfers went unresolved, she got fed up with Imperial service and defected to the New Republic, taking the Black Asp with her.

LIEUTENANT PAGE

Page was from the planet Corulag. He disapproved of his father's position as a pampered Imperial Senator, and was none too happy when his father sent him to the Academy. However, Page turned the situation to his own goals, and used the freedom from his father to study all sorts of things about the military. He graduated with honors, and was assigned as a scout in General Veers' command in the Army. He defected to  the Alliance after hearing one of Princess Leia's anti?Imperial speeches on Coruscant, agreeing with her assessment of the Empire and the state of the galaxy. Page stayed on after witnessing the heroic efforts of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. Page was recruited by Crix Madine as a commando, and he was part of Bren Derlin's troops on Hoth, as well as Madine's assault team at Endor. When Derlin took a desk job following the Battle of Endor, Page was promoted to Lieutenant, but refused to be promoted further, having seen that rank had nothing to do with the level of commitment from Solo or Skywalker.

IELLA WESSIRI

This Corellian female was an associate of Corran Horn and Gil Bastra. She was married to Diric Wessiri, and was a member of the New Republic Security forces. She and Corran were teamed up in a tour of duty that involved trips to Kessel. She was later planted on Coruscant as an undercover agent, assuming the alias of Irin Fossyr, a representative of the Rohair Biochemical Clinic. In this capacity, she assisted Wedge Antilles and Rogue Squadron when they were sent to Coruscant to knock out the planet's shields. The offensive was successful, despite the fact that the Krytos virus was loose, and Iella emerged from her anonymity. She was chosen to assist Halla Ettyk during the trial of Tycho Celchu, and was busy gathering data when her husband, Diric, reappeared after being in Imperial captivity. She had given him up for dead, and was quickly becoming friends with Wedge Antilles. She remained loyal to Diric, and was both ecstatic and concerned at his presence. While she loved having him back, Diric was physically emaciated and tried to remain as active as he was in the past. He was constantly talkign with Tycho Celchu, and was convinved of his innocence despite Iella's evidence. When Nawara Ven told her that he was going to produce an Imperial witness to solve the Celchu case once and for all, she discovered that the Imperial wanted to meet only with Ven and herself. She agreed, and met Kirtan Loor in a secret entrance to the Imperial Justice building. However, her husband Diric had learned that an Imperial had been captured, and he believed it to be Evir Derricote. Diric ambushed the three of them as they emerged at the prosecutor's level, and began firing shots. He caught Ven in the right hip before fatally wounding Loor. Iella acted quickly to try and save their witness and bring the assassin to justice, and shot her weapon several times. It was only after the shooting stopped that she realized who the attacker was. Diric died from his wounds just as Kirtan Loor did. Iella was very distraught, but continued on the case until Corran Horn returned to prove Celchu innocent. She also discovered that she felt some attraction to Wedge Antilles, who was two years older than her, but his duties kept them from becoming serious. Iella remained with the New Republic, and served with Elscol Loro during the infiltration of Thyferra during the Bacta War.

WINTER

Leia Organa-Solo's childhood friend, Winter was raised in the household of Bail Organa. A year and a few months older than Leia, she is a strikingly beautiful Alderaanian woman with snow-white hair. She bears a striking resemblance to Leia, and often sat in for Leia in public appearances. Their friendship grew quickly, and their rapport kept them together on many diplomatic missions. Winter has been an invaluable aide to Leia, using her photographic memory to catalog huge amounts of data for later recall. Winter's abilities were put to use by the Alliance, during its struggle with the Empire. She was known as the Targeter during the Rebellion. Winter became a visible symbol of the New Republic, helping spread Leia's ideals to other worlds, including Cilpar. Winter became a sort of scout for Rogue Squadron following the Battle of Endor, staying one step ahead of Imperial forces and alerting the fledgling New Republic command to any suspicious activity. Winter made the first contact with Elscol Loro on Cilpar, and was instrumental in the recovery of the Eidolon weapons cache. During its recovery, she began to fall in love with Tycho Celchu, and they shared their Alderaanian heritage
