COMMANDER WEDGE ANTILLES

Born on Corellia, Wedge spent much of his childhood working for his parents on the last planet in the Gus Treta system. His parents, Jagged and Zena, owned a fueling station there, and Wedge became proficient at starship systems. He also gained a great deal of piloting skill there, and was ready to go to the Academy when a pirate ship, the Buzzzer, under the command of Loka Hask, got spooked at the fuel depot when a Corellian Security Force fleet arrived. Hask ordered them to lift off, but the crew forgot to unhook their refeuling coupling before blasting away. The resulting fuel leak was ignited, and Wedge's parents were forced to eject the fueling station in order to save the rest of the station. Both of Wedge's parents were killed in this effort, and Wedge - who was with Booster Terrik at the time - went after the pirates in an old Z-95 Headhunter. Although he managed to destroy the Buzzzer,  Wedge's lack of funding led him to start taking all kinds of odd jobs, and was getting nowhere as a smuggler when he decided to join the Alliance. He quickly demonstrated his abilities as a fighter pilot, and also ran a number of reconnaissance and escort missions before being tapped as one of the X?wing pilots in the Battle of Yavin. Since then, Wedge's growing skills have earned him a number of distinctions, the greatest of which came when he was named squadron leader of the famous Rogue Squadron. While with Rogue Squadron, Wedge assisted Lando Calrissian during the Battle of Endor, and helped destroy the incomplete Death Star being built there. He remained as Rogue Leader  through the restructuring of Rogue Squadron, and his squadrons provided invaluable support in the battles against Ysanne Isard.

CAPTAIN TYCHO CELCHU

Celchu was a graduate of the Imperial Naval Academy, even though he was a native of Alderaan. He was engaged to a woman named Nyiestra who, along with most of Celchu's family, was killed when the Death Star destroyed the planet. Tycho was calling home on his twenty-first birthday, and regarded the loss of transmission to be a simple glitch. After learning the truth about this atrocious act, Celchu left Imperial service and defected to the Alliance. He became a veteran of the Battle of Hoth, he flew an A?Wing in the Battle of Endor, and participated in the  Battle of Bakura. His allegiance, though, was constantly questioned by the  ranking officers in the New Republic, although the fighter pilots never waivered in their support of him. He was under constant surveillance by the New Republic,  because of his ability to escape from Imperial capture time and time again.  He showed an innate ability to pilot a TIE Fighter, which also didn't endear him to the higher-ups. It did, though, bring a level of respect among other pilots. Tycho assisted the Rogues and infiltrated the Imperial ranks on Cilpar. He also participated in the Rogues' mission to Mrlsst, but was witnessed killing the controllers of the Phantom cloaking device and stealing its plans. The tape turned out to be a clever fake designed to discredit the Rogues and secure the Phantom device for the Empire. Once the Phantom was proven to be a smokescreen, Tycho was freed from any guilt in the matter. He later fell in love with Winter, during the recovery of the Eidolon on Tatooine. He was later chosen to fly the initial scanning runs of the planet Coruscant, flying a stolen Imperial craft in a series of sensor runs in an effort to assess the planet's defenses. He was captured by the Empire and sent to Lusankya, where he was allowed to remember his time there. He was then sent to Akrit'tar for three months before escaping and returning to the Republic. This time was secretly removed from his Republic records, further increasing the distrust among those members of the Command structure who weren't privy to the Coruscant mission. He later a member of Rogue Squadron following the Battle of  Endor, but was not allowed to pilot a starfighter or any ship with weapons. Shortly before the attack on Coruscant, Celchu was believed dead on Noquivzor. He suddenly reappeared, and helped the Rogues get onto the planet. There, Corran Horn supposedly witnessed Tycho meeting with Kirtan Loor, when Celchu was actually meeting with Lai Nootka. The circumstantial evidence, coupled with Horn's disappearance, left Tycho in custody for Horn's murder. He was certain to be convicted of the crime until Horn escaped from Lusankya and positively identified the true traitor in the Rogue Squadron as Erisi D'larit. Tycho eventually fell in love with Winter, partly because she was near him more often, but mostly because of their shared Alderaanian background.

CAPTAIN ARIL NUNB

Nien Nunb's sister, she was the Executive Officer of the X-Wing Rogue Squadron.  Wedge Antilles praised her abilities as a fighter pilot, but he opposed her nomination as XO because she was an instinctual pilot with little ability to teach. He wanted Tycho Celchu to be the XO. She eventually became a pilot in the squadron, and was captured on Coruscant. She was used as one of Evir Derricote's experimental aliens for his Krytos project before she was rescued. She later assisted the Rogues during the Bacta War by piloting the Valiant warship.

LIEUTENANT CORRAN HORN

This Corellian was a members of Wedge Antilles' Rogue Squadron. Corran was a member of the Corellian Security Force before trying out for Rogue Squadron. He worked with Iella Wessiri under Gil Bastra, and fell in with Bastra's anti-Imperial philosophy. During an undercover mission with his father, Corran's mother was fatally injured in an accident with a drunk driver. They rushed to the hospital, where she died after seeing them one last time. With the appointment of Kirtan Loor as his superior, and with Hal's death at the hands of the Trandoshan bounty hunter Bossk, Corran knew that his future on Corellia was limited. Corran and Bastra created false smuggler ids for each other, the Wessiri's, and two other Alliance supporters, and then staged a scenario in which Corran killed them in cold blood. Corran claimed that he was only following the orders of Kirtan Loor, but Loor felt that Corran was trying to upstage him. When Corran defected to the Alliance, Loor put out an Imperial deathmark on Corran's head. Corran later became one of Antilles' best pilots, taking on the hardest missions and surviving them. Corran kept his grandfather's JedCred on a chain around his neck, rubbing it for luck during these missions. He was instrumental in the liberation of Borleias from the Empire, and went undercover to assist the New Republic in gaining information on Coruscant. However, while on the Coruscant mission, Corran's Z-95 Headhunter was brought down by remote control - presumably by Tycho Celchu - and crashed in the Invisible Sector of Coruscant's Imperial City. He was captured and brought to Ysanne Isard at Lusankya for interrogation. He proved to be incorrigible, and Isard consigned him to the rock mines. There, he met the prisoner Jan and devised an escape plan. Corran discovered that the gravity at Lusankya was reversed to keep the prisoners disoriented, and escaped to discover that Lusankya was buried beneath Imperial City. After spending six weeks in the Lusankya facility, he arrived at Tycho's trial and proved Tycho innocent. He also relayed information on a hidden Jedi museum buried near Lusankya to Luke Skywalker, who found the museum in a hidden section of the Galactic Museum. Luke offered Corran the chance to become a Jedi Knight, but Corran refused. He opted to continue to serve with Rogue Squadron. It was at about this time that Corran became romantically involved with Mirax Terrik, a situation whose irony was not lost on either of them. Corran's father, Hal, had been the one to send Booster Terrik to Kessel for smuggling. Mirax, though, held none of her father's enmity, and wasted no time in agreeing to marry Corran. After the Battle of Thyferra, they were married by Wedge Antilles aboard the Lusankya, in order to avoid any interference from Booster.

LIEUTENANT PASH CRACKEN

A highly-proficient starfighter in the Republic, Pash was the son of Airen Cracken. He flew A-Wings early in his career, and quickly moved up the ranks to become a squadron commander. However, the people serving under him felt that his seeming invulnerablity and ability to survive any situation made them equally invulnerable. Pash's squadron soon started taking losses, and was placed under Varth's unit. Pash used this modification to apply for Rogue Squadron to help save good pilots. He served Wedge Antilles when the Rogues infiltrated Coruscant, as a prelude to the New Republic taking the planet back from the remnants of the Empire.

GAVIN DARKLIGHTER

A native of Tatooine, he was a member of Rogue Squadron. He was a cousin of Biggs Darklighter. He was only sixteen when Wedge Antilles suggested that he be allowed to join. He was responsible for creating the emblem of Rogue Squadron, which featured a twelve-pointed, red star surrounding the blue symbol of the Alliance. Radiating from the points of the star were X-Wing fighters. When the Squadron resigned its commission with the New Republic after the liberation of Coruscant, he painted his X-Wing to resemble a krayt dragon. As the Rogues liberated Ciruscant, Gavin found himself drawn to the Bothan pilot, Asyr Sei'lar, and they became romantically involved. Their relationship was nearly shattered when Gavin's X-Wing was damaged during the capture of the Xucphra Alazhi. He limped to Halanit, only to have the Corrupter and the Thyferran Home Defense Corps track the colony down. Erisi Dlarit made him believe it was his own flight that led the Imperials to Halanit, but it was really Ysanne Isard tracing the shipment of bacta to its source. Gavin assisted the settlers as much as he could, but he was unable to stop the destruction of their outpost.

BROR JACE

He was a native of the planet Thyferra, and a veteran of the Battle of Hoth, Endor, and Bakura. He was a member of the Zaltin faction of bacta producers, as a way to balance the inclusion of Erisi Dlarit to the Squadron. It was the belief of the Zaltin faction that the Empire was doomed, and that an alliance with the New Republic through Jace would be profitable. Jace was part of the mission which was sent to Noquivzor, but was ambushed by the Black Asp. His body was never recovered, and Jace was listed as missing in action. It was believed that Tycho Celchu had leaked the mission's plans to the Imperials, but it was later revealed that Celchu was not the traitor. Jace himself later reappeared, and explained that the Vratix of the Ashern faction had recalled him to help plan the overthrow of Xucphra's pro-Imperial Bacta Cartel. He assisted the Rogues in the planning for the Battle of Thyferra, and was invaluable to the infiltration unit led by Elscol Loro and Sixtus Quin. After the Rogues defeated Ysanne Isard and removed the Imperial yoke from Thyferra, Jace was appointed to create the Thyferran Aerospace Defense Force.

OORYL QRYGG

This Gand was a member of the X-Wing group Rogue Squadron. He was Corran Horn's wingman for much of his time with the Rogues, and was a distinguished member of their group. He survived several battles in which he was nearly shot down, and his breathing apparatus helped him avoid the Krytos plague. His ability to defeat his enemies drew the interest of Vviir Wiamdi and the ruetsavii shortly before the Battle of Thyferra. Vviir and two others flew with the Rogues to witness Ooryl's abilities and to criticize them, if possible. When they all survived the battle which ended the Bacta War, Vviir and his companions deemed Ooryl janwuine, and invited all of Rogue Squadron to Gand as hinwuine.

LUJAYNE FORGE

A native of Kessel, she was a member of Wedge Antilles' Rogue Squadron. Her father was an Old Republic corrections officer who went to Kessel to teach inmates how to better re-integrate back into society upon their release. There, he met and fell in love with Lujayne's mother, an inmate at the time. Together they got married and had a number of children. They remained on Kessel when Lujayne left to join the New Republic. She felt that Corran Horn held this against her, since he was part of a Security team that toured Kessel. Forge was killed on Talasea, when Kirtan Loor's troops infiltrated the Rogues' base there. She never awakened when the stormtroopers entered the compound, and was shot in her sleep.

INYRI FORGE

Lujayne Forge's sister, Inyri was remarkably similar to Lujayne in appearance. She had just as much promise as Lujayne did, but felt that she never got her parents' support in anything. She rebelled, and joined up with Zekka Thyne while he was imprisoned on Kessel. She dyed a forelock of her hair blue, to match the patches on Thyne's skin, and became his lover and his spice cutter. In this capacity, Inyri was responsible for dosing the spice that Thyne was able smuggle into consumable portions. When the Rogue Squadron negotiated with Moruth Doole for the release of Thyne, Inyri went along with him, rather than returning to her parents. She later realized that Thyne was never going to give her the respect she so desperately wanted, and she shot him when he tried to expose the Rogues on Coruscant.

Story Factors:

Opportunist: Bothans, as a species, are very opportunistic and predatory.  They try to take advantage whenever possible, and also think that everyone who isn't allied with them is actively plotting against them.  As a result, they seem greedy, selfish, and paranoid to many other species.

Communication: Bothans can manipulate their fur to express emotions and further clarigy any statements they make.  In Bothan society, this ability is as important to communication as speech - the rippling conveys subtleties that mere words cannot express (or so Bothans believe).  Control requires practice and can be affected by strong emotion, just as it is often easy to tell if a human is angry by the tone of his voice.

NAWARA VEN

This Twi'lek was a member of Wedge Antilles' X-Wing Rogue Squadron. On Ryloth, Nawara was born to the Ven clan. His name was translated literally to be "tongue of silver," but the translation was modified to mean "excellent speaker." On Ryloth, he is known as Nawar'aven, which indicates the Twi'leki tendency to modify names to indicate meaning. If he were known by his true clan name, Nawara'ven, the translation would then be "tarnished silver." He was a lawyer with the New Republic before applying for fighter duty. As such, he drew a part in the mission to liberate Coruscant. Once on the planet, Nawara contracted the Krytos virus, but underwent immediate bacta therapy and was able to overcome the virus. He later served as Tycho Celchu's defendant in the trial of Corran Horn's murder, as well as the Rogue Squadron primary representative in the mission to Ryloth to obtain Kor ryll. Upon his return to Coruscant, Ven was contacted by Kirtan Loor, who offered to expose every Imperial agent on Coruscant, including the true identity of the traitor in Rogue Squadron, in return for freedom from Ysanne Isard and certain liberties. Ven brokered a deal with the New Republic's Provisional Council, and met Loor with Iella Wessiri in the bowels of Imperial City. When they exitted the turbolift at the prosecutor's level, they were attacked by Diric Wessiri. Wessiri believed that Loor was actuall Evir Derricote, and wanted to kill Derricote for enslaving him. Instead, Diric shot Ven in the hip before killing Loor. Diric himself was killed by his own wife, Iella, who believed him to be a crazed assassin. Ven managed to overcome the injury and return to Rogue Squadron, but was shot down during the Battle of Thyferra by Erisi Dlarit. He ejected before his X-Wing exploded, but he sustained damage to his legs when his vacuum suit was pierced by shrapnel. He decided to give up flying and become the Rogue's Executive officer.

RIV SHIEL

This Shistavenan Wolfman was a member of Wedge Antilles' X-Wing Rogue Squadron. He earned an Imperial deathmark by killing a stormtrooper who thought he was Lak Sivrak. He continued to serve with distinction until he contracted the Krytos virus after the liberation of Coruscant. He was treated with bacta almost immediately, but was sidelined for some time during his recovery. Riv returned to active duty after the Rogues broke away from the New Republic, but was killed near Thyferra when the Corrupter intercepted the Rogue waylaying a bacta shipment. Riv and Gavin Darklighter were escorting the Xucphra Alazhi when the Star Destroyer took out Riv's X-Wing. The dead ship slammed into the Alazhi and detonated it. Darklighter fled to Halanit as the other Rogues returned home.

ASYR SEI’LAR

This female Bothan was living in the Invisible Sector of the Coruscant underworld when Rogue Squadron infiltrated the planet prior to the New Republic's assault on it. She was a member of the Alien Combine, noticeable by her black pelt, which is punctuated by white splotches on her chest, head, and hands. She tried to come onto Gavin Darklighter, who rejected her. She labelled him a bigot, and brought him to the Combine for punishment. Asyr soon discovered that Gavin was simply scared, and was as understanding of alien species as any non-human. She was a graduate of the Bothan Military Academy, graduating a year behind Peshk Vri'syk. This training earned her the respect of the Rogues and the New Republic, and she was given a place in the squadron following the liberation of Coruscant. She and Gavin became romantically involved, but were discret about it. She was watched by Borsk Fey'lya, who had hoped that Asyr would remain loyal to the Bothan political ideals and could provide potentially damaging information about the Rogues. She refused his demands, and remained loyal to the Squadron.

TAL’DIRA

This huge, well-muscled Twi'lek was the first among the warriors sent to assess Wedge Antilles, when Rogue Squadron arrived to negotiate for kor ryll. He flew a starfighter into Kala'uun Starport and challenged Wedge to a duel, with the kor as the reward for the winner. When Wedge accepted the challenge, Tal'dira then challenged Koh'shak's truthfulness in his business dealings. Tal'dira accused Koh'shak of keeping all ryll profits for himself, and Koh'shak could not refute the claim. Tal'dira took control of the negotiations, and gave the kor ryll to Wedge as a gift, warrior to warrior. Tal'dira later delivered a squadron of Chir'daki starfighters to Rogue Squadron, to supplement the forces going up against the Bacta Cartel. When Nawara Ven was shot down in the Battle of Thyferra, his injuries forced him out of the cockpit. Tal'dira accepted Wedge's offer to join the Rogues, and continued the tradition of a Twi'lek in the squadron by serving as Rogue Five.

This Verpine was a member of the support team for Wedge Antilles' Rogue Squadron. He was from the asteroid Roche G42. He was in charge of keeping Rogue Squadron's X?Wings in tip?top shape, and he worked hard to keep from tinkering with the ships. His Verpine mentality often got the best of him, though, and small modifications were always showing up. As luck would have it, Zraii's modifications often improved the Rogues' performance.
