Code Of Practice for FIRST RESPONDERS
Code of Conduct for Individual Members
LIVES reserves the right to terminate membership if any member acts outside of the Code Of Conduct.
Resuscitation skills not currently in the First Responder handbook and Training Course should not be used unless approved by the LIVES Training Manager.
Any complaints or grievances should be forwarded in writing to LIVES who will reply within 28 days. If the individual or team are unhappy with any response received, the complaint or grievance may be passed to the Executive Committee through the LIVES Training Executive.
Regular practice sessions need to be held monthly and a First Responder needs to attend a minimum of one hands on sesison every 3 months in order to maintain skill levels.
A First Responder should have: High personal standards. A Sense of Responsibility.
Be honest. Have Self Discipline. Be loyal to LIVES.
Patient confidentiality must be respected and maintained at all times.
First Responders should not smoke while attending an incident, nor be intoxicated with alcohol or other substances while on duty.
First Responders should adhere to safe driving practice and observe the Road Traffic Act when responding to a call.
First Responders should notify their vehicle insurance company of their activities as a LIVES volunteer.
First Responders should ensure they are inoculated for Hepatitis B and anti-tetnus.

ode of Conduct for Local Groups and Group Co-ordinators:
Each group will re-elect a spokesperson after 6 operational months (and annually thereafter) who will liase with LIVES regarding day to day activitties and requirements of the scheme.
All publicity, fund raising and information material or Press Releases produced by Local Schemes should be approved by LIVES before release if at all practicable.
When the Local Scheme becomes operational, any funds raised and held on account will be transfered to the LIVES General Account. Local Schemes will then be expected to budget and account for any necessary outgoings through the LIVES Financial Secretary. Any future funds raised should be placed in the General Account.
The team needs to ensure that rota's for duty are properly maintained and completed. Last minute lack of cover is to be reported to Ambulance Control.
Equipment is to be checked regularly for serviceability and cleanliness. Maintenance or replacement of equipment should be requested through LIVES.
LIVES retains responsibility & ownership of all equipment operational and non-operational.
Equipment not included in the standard First Responder pack is not to be used without approval of the LIVES Equipment Manager. This includes "uniforms" and roof light boxes.
The team needs to ensure that all Scheme Members undergo a re-certification assessment annually, to be arranged through  the LIVES Training Manager.
Patient and Incident forms are to be completed correctly and legibly.  They, and, if appropriate, the Defibrillator memory card are to be returned promptly to LIVES head office within 7 days.
Teams or individuals should make no comment regarding policy without reference to LIVES.
Support Given by LIVES
Provision of training in BLS and AED Defibrillation, and any additional training as required to support changing protocols.
Provision of Insurance for personal and public liability while a First Responder is attending a LIVES incident.
Retention of responsibility for decisions affecting range and type of equipment used by First Responders.
Provision of counselling if required by First Responders.
Provision of advice and support to Local Schemes and Co-ordinators as required.
