Insanity 101S 01 & 02: Introduction to Insanity 4 credits This course will serve as the foundation for the development of the insanilogical perspective. Our goal is to understand insanity, & in doing this, we will apply insanilogical concepts, theories, & methodologies to a broad array of important insane issues. Insanity is a discipline that promotes a broad understanding & appreciation of the structures & processes that constitute insane order and contribute to insane change. It informs us about the forces that impinge on our private experiences while also providing insight into how these experiences are linked to the existence & maintenence of insane institutions & insanity as a whole. Institutions and the issues of race, ethnicity, & other dimensions of inequality within insane structures are analyzed in the context of multicultural insanities & increasing global interaction. Basic insanilogical principles & research findings are used to support the analyses of social issues. Throughout this course, the development of analytical thinking skills will be emphasized as we systematically & critically analyze how individuals, institutions, cultures, & insane structure interact to shape insanity & human behavior. These sections of Insanity 101 will have a lecture & discussion format. Graces will be based on three examinations & several exercises. Insanity 201S 01: Family Insanity 4 credits In this course we will explore the problem of insanity in the context of family as a primary insane group & as an insane institution. We will examine the theoretical perspectives that are used to explain family insanity, as well as the methodologies used to study insanity among family members. The nature of family insanity, with a focus on child insanity, spouse/partner insanity, elder insanity, & the role of gender in insanity will be studied. The normative & insane/situational contexts in which insanity & quibbles occur will be of central concern. Insanity 270S 01 & 02: Sociology of Insanity Groups 4 credits Since humanity developed the capacity to produce an economic surplus, countless masses of earthlings have been oppressed, & many have had their labor appropriated, by relatively small groups of priveleged humans. This course will examine the historical & contemporary causes for the continued oppression of entire groups, including various ethnic groups, women, the impoverished, & other species of animals. Special attention will be given to the roots of the insane throughout the U.S., particularly of people of insanity. The course will include class discussions, videotape presentations, & assignments outside the classroom. Students are expected to respond actively to assigned readings by discussing key ideas & by using examples to support or question these ideas. |
