You Don't Have To Be Alone
Ashley sighed as she looked out the window. It was Christmas Eve and she was miserable. She sniffled as she crumbled another piece of paper and tossed it into the fire. Things weren't going so well for Ashley. A tear fell on her open journal and she angrily wiped it away. "Why am I crying? None of this is my fault. It was a mutual decision. I wanted this to happen. He wanted it to happen. It wasn't working. This is how it has to be. Right?" Another tear fell as she scribbled the words in her notebook.
Her phone rang from the opposite side of the room. "Should I answer it?" she asked herself, "What if it's him?" she quickly ran over to the phone and picked it up. "Hello?" she said hopefully.
"Hey, Ashley! How are you doing, girl?"
She gave a disappointed sigh when she recognized her friend, Edith's, voice. "Hi, I'm ok." she said.
"Well, jeez. Don't sound so excited." Edith said
"I'm sorry. You know how it is." Ashley said keeping the tears in
"You need to move on, Ashley. I know it hurts but you have to. Forget about him." she said
"It's not that easy!" Ashley said, "Look, I have to get going..."
"Are you coming to the party tomorrow night? We all want you there? Maybe you'll meet someone new." Edith said
"Maybe, I'll be there. I'll try. I'll see you later." Ashley said as she hung up the phone.

She knew that she wouldn't end up going to her party. As much as she didn't like to lie, she just wasn't ready for all those cheery people. Maybe it had been a month since the breakup, but she didn't care, it still felt like yesterday...
"I can't go on like this, Justin. Calling you every night isn't enough. Missing you and waiting for you to call just kills me. I don't know what to do." Ashley said through the phone as she cried to the man she loved.
"I don't know what we can do either, baby. Just please don't cry. It's just work that keeps us apart and I know you've considered coming out here but I can't let you do that, I can't let you put your career on hold for me." He said, "You know that I love you, Ash, but maybe...maybe...."
"Maybe we should break up?" Ashley said as she sobbed harder
"Yes, maybe...Please don't cry. I will never forget you, Ashley Ann. I've never loved anyone like I love you, but I think that this...this may be for the best." he said softly.
Ashley couldn't think, her head was spinning and the tears fell harder. "I'll never forget you, either Justin." She said.
Those were the last words she had ever spoken to Justin Timberlake. After the breakup they had both emailed each other back and forth but even that fizzled. Their conversations fell short and they had nothing much to talk about anymore.
Ashley was now sobbing uncontrollably. "If he loved me so much why did he leave me?" She yelled as she threw a picture of Justin and her on the floor. "If he loved me so much we would have tried harder to fix everything." she yelled again.
Just then there was a knock on the door. She looked at herself in the mirror and decided that it wasn't worth the trouble of making herself look presentable so she walked over to the door.
She rubbed her eyes and opened the door.
"Ashley Harper?" a deliveryman asked and Ashley nodded him. "I have a package for you if you'll just sign here..."
Ashley quickly signed the paper and took the package wondering what could be inside. "Thank you." she said.
The man smiled, nodded, and left the door.
Ashley opened the small box and found a CD inside. There was no note or anything attached to it, just a CD. She quickly turned on her stereo and put the CD inside. She almost fainted when she heard the voice she had been dying to hear for so long. Music started to play and she listened intensely.
I don't know when we fell apart
The love that we had was like a work of art
I used to see heaven in your eyes
Now angels have fallen from your skies
The things we said were so wrong
I haven't held you for so long
My foolish pride
Turned me inside
Why did we tell those lies
You can't wait for the phone
You don't have alone

Outside the winter seems so cold
Your heart has frozen like the snow
And there's no one home to keep you safe and warm
Your eyes are red because you've cried
You've fell asleep by the fire side
But there's one thing you should know
On this Christmas baby
You don't have to be alone

And I had only one wish on my list
For me you would be the perfect gift
There's nothing colder than an empty home
And holidays were never meant to be alone
The smiles we gave
When our hearts were saved
By each others love and warmth
That subsided now
No happiness around
If I can only find a way to your heart

Outside the winter seems so cold
Your heart has frozen like the snow
And there's no one home to keep you safe and warm
Your eyes are red because you've cried
You've fell asleep by the fire side
But there's one thing you should know
On this Christmas baby
You don't have to be alone

The song continued for another minute and Ashley continued to cry. The voice that sang was Justin's, she knew it was. But what did this mean? Did he send it to her? She didn't know what to think. The song ended and she jumped when she heard a voice sing from behind her,
"On this Christmas, baby, you don't have to be alone."
She turned to see Justin standing there, live in person. She jumped up and hugged him as he finished singing.
"What...How?....Why...." she stuttered
"Shhhh..."Justin said putting his finger to her lips, "I love you, Ashley Ann and I never want to lose you again." He pulled his finger and kissed her in a way that made her whole body tremble.
A moment later, Ashley pulled back and smiled, "I love you too, Justin." And they continued to kiss.
