Thirukkural in Gujarati (ગુજરાતી)

Being the state where Mahatma Gandhi – who believed in non-violence, non-killing, abstinence, truthfulness and vegetarianism – was born, the state of Gujarat has paid some attention to the Kural. There are two Gujarati translations, the first one by Najnklal Choksi in 1931 and the second one by Kantilal L. Kalani in 1971. The second one, a selection of 852 couplets, was republished in 1985 by Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidhya Nagar. Kantilal covered all chapters in Tirukkural but translated only select couplets (of four to ten) from every chapter.

The translation presented here is that of Kantilal L. Kalani. The book serially numbers the select 852 couplets without any due consideration to their original numbering. Here the couplets have been designated their original numbers, leaving the un-translated ones blank. These blanks will be filled once I manage to get hold of the translation by Najnklal Choksi.
