The day began like many others before it, the apartment was quiet and Sissy (my cat) was asking to be fed. After doing my normal routine, I was then ready to turn on my computer to make connection with the love of my life. “Good morning, my love” I typed in the chat box. A few seconds later he answered, “Hi”!!!! “And how is your day going so far?” I typed. “Do you have your television on he asked?
“No, I typed why there is something wrong?” I normally listen to music when online, as did he. So it did peak my interest.

“Yes” something tragic has happen, I then turned the television on and felt a sharp pain in the pit of my stomach, and the tears started to flow. After watching the planes embed themselves repeatedly and listening to the news commentator saying we were at war, I began to panic. I could not watch it anymore I saw all my hopes and dreams shatter; I saw thousands of peoples lives perish.

All the people who lost their fathers, mothers, sons and daughters, how could anyone be so cold so heartless to do such a horrific act of hatred!  What did they hope to achieve? What was their goal? As the days lingered on we would learn what the reasons were. They wanted all to beckon to their ways their way of living and thinking, to strip us of our fought for the right of freedom. History shows that others have tried and failed.

Its now a year later and many are still morning their lost and that of others. Today’s children will know as they grow that their fathers, mother’s sisters and brother were heroes and heroines that their lives were not taken in vain.

The nation’s loss has proven that we were created in our heavenly fathers’ image. That we are a compassionate nation that united we stand and when divided we fall. This  tragedy has shown those of other nations we are strong we do not fear the unknown, that we can and are here for each other that when things get rough we can lean on each other. That we all know that we have a common bond, that for peace, for love universally.

One person thought he had the right to judge the fate of others, he was not satisfied to just destroying his home land, he felt it necessary to come on our homeland and take what was not his and murdered thousands of people, he took mothers away from their new born children, the father of eight children will not see his legacy grow, to see those first steps, to be there when his son asks for the keys to the car for his first date. To talk to them about their future, or to walk his daughter down the isle on her wedding day.

For those Americans that had ancestors who survived ‘The holocaust’ they carried those memories their entire lives. This too will stay in the memories of our nation; it will be in the history books of our children. It shall never leave our thoughts. And we don’t want it to, we want it to stay with us so we will no longer take our freedom for granted, when we want to voice our opinions, we remember September 11th, 2001 and how our freedom was tarnished. Our faith was challenged, our anger was tested.

I no longer take it for granted that my friends know I love them, or that my family loves me. Or the love of my life knows that my love for him grows stronger as each sunrise begins. I tell them I love them and that they are a vital part of my life,  that my soul mate is loved and is told so daily.

Yes the tears have subsided and the scars have healed, but we must never forget those that died not just on September 11th 2001 but all those who have given there lives so that we can live in the land of the free and the home of the brave,

                                              May We Never Forget.
