Trata-se de revisitar a formulação do problema da correlação entre sistema e mundo da vida à luz da teoria crítica do reconhecimento intersubjetivo em Axel Honneth, enfocando os problemas da técnica e da reificação, através da leitura de textos seletos de Heidegger, Habermas, Ellul, Foucault, Derrida e Stiegler. O seminário dá continuidade ao trabalho de pesquisa desenvolvido sobre os debates atuais em torno de uma reformulação da Teoria Crítica capaz de resgatar a normatividade inerente ao mundo da vida através de uma fenomenologia hermenêutica da justiça como alternativa a modelos liberais e comunitaristas, modernistas e pós-modernos.

Course Description
What is technology? What is society? In this course, I will argue that technology might be a good clue not only to the so-called "social construction of reality," but to the very concept of the social. In order to tackle the first question and understand what technology is all about, we will be reading some seminal texts by Heidegger, Habermas, Ellul, Foucault, Derrida, and Stiegler, stemming from what has been called the phenomenological movement and related schools of thought. Critical theory itself, especially as conceived by Habermas and Honneth, can be thus understood as a political theory which is ultimately indebted to the phenomenology of the social world or the lifeworld. In order to deal with the second question, we'll be exploring Axel Honneth's theory of intersubjective recognition as a highly original response to systemic reductionisms (such as technicism, bureaucratization, monetarization, juridification, and other social pathologies and effects of reification to be found in late capitalism). Honneth succeeds, I will argue, in recasting a critical theory of society that avoids the demonization of modern technologies and dichotomies opposing systems and lifeworld, hence he successfully cashes in what I dubbed "the phenomenological deficit of critical theory " --beyond the so-called normative, sociological, and political deficits of social analyses.

Spring 2009/1 : A Critical Theory of Justice : Habermas, Honneth, and French Phenomenology
Trata-se de revisitar a formulação do problema da justiça através de leituras dos dois mais importantes representantes da Teoria Crítica contemporânea (Escola de Frankfurt): Jürgen Habermas e Axel Honneth, sobretudo à luz das suas respectivas apropriações de Kant e Hegel, assim como das suas interlocuções com a fenomenologia francesa, a hermenêutica e a desconstrução em torno da questão do poder e da alteridade (esp. Emmanuel Levinas, Paul Ricoeur, Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida). O seminário dá continuidade ao trabalho de pesquisa desenvolvido sobre os debates atuais em torno da Teoria da Justiça e da Teoria Crítica e em que medida podemos reformular uma fenomenologia hermenêutica da justiça como alternativa a modelos liberais e comunitaristas, modernistas e pós-modernos.
2. PLANO DE ENSINO:
2.1. Objetivos:
Explorar o caráter interrogante da filosofia social de Foucault, Habermas e Honneth aplicado à formulação de proposições práticas e teorias políticas; problematizar definições da justiça, da ontologia social, da subjetividade, da liberdade, da igualdade, do reconhecimento e da alteridade, a partir da leitura de Habermas, Honneth, Levinas, Ricoeur, Foucault, Derrida e interlocutores.
Aprofundar os conceitos de justiça, universalismo, comunitarismo, contratualismo, natureza humana, universalização, multiculturalismo, democracia, sociabilidade, liberalismo, cosmopolitismo, direitos humanos, procedimentalismo, teoria crítica, razão comunicativa, esfera pública, ética do discurso, teoria do reconhecimento, o problema da alteridade, práxis e teoria, a fundamentação normativa do político, a suposta normatividade da globalização, democracia deliberativa, moral e direito, a primazia do justo sobre o bem, realismo e anti-realismo, pragmatismo político, republicanismo.
Proporcionar ao estudante um background filosófico no pensamento sócio-político moderno, a fim de desenvolver sua própria reflexão crítica.
2.2. Metodologia:
Trata-se de um curso expositivo-participativo, no qual serão requeridas leituras semanais, apresentações orais e a participação do aluno nos debates e workshops.
2.3. Avaliação:
Freqüência obrigatória. Apresentação oral (pelo menos uma, em sala de aula). No final do semestre, entrega de um trabalho escrito (paper de 20 ou mais páginas; tópico e bibliografia a serem previamente discutidos com o professor).

Trata-se de revisitar o problema da justiça através de leituras contemporâneas que retomam a critica de Hegel a Kant, assim como a abordagem da fenomenologia e da hermenêutica, em autores como Michel Foucault, John Rawls, Jürgen Habermas e Axel Honneth. Partiremos das recepções de duas das mais importantes obras sobre a articulação entre Ontologia e Subjetividade [Fenomenologia do Espírito (1807) de Hegel e Ser e Tempo (1927) de Heidegger] para melhor entendermos os debates atuais em torno da Teoria da Justiça e da Teoria Crítica sobre os modelos liberais e os modelos comunitaristas e em que medida pode-se ainda defender uma fenomenologia hermenêutica da justiça.
