Descent is very highly regarded in the gaming community because of its revolutionary 360-3D game engine. Obviously I like it; otherwise, I wouldn't be doing a website about it (dah). So how does D1 stack up against its offspring, D's 2 & 3?
VS. DESCENT II: There is no contest. Even though D2 has prettier graphics and better weapons, Descent I has levels that are much more playable, and the robots don't look like the designers were running out of ideas.
VS. DESCENT 3: This isn't as clear-cut. In fact, I'd cast my vote for D3 as the greatest in the series. D3 is what D2 should have been. The graphics are unbelievable, the weaponry kicks !*#, and the storyline (happily) ditches the traditional blue-yellow-red key procession. The multiplayer is also top-notch: any dink with a connection to the Internet can play for free.
I'd say more, but there's really nothing left to say: Descent was, is, and always will be one of the true gaming classics.
