Joey Ramone - The Ramones
May 19th 1952 - 15 April 2001
Joey Ramone (Jeffry Hyman)
Everyone's heard of the Ramones, they are legends in the Punk scene and on a par with the Sex Pistols as probably the worlds most famous and influential punk band ever.
Joey Ramone for all his sins was their stick insect of a lead singer. I will always picture him with microphone stand at a 76% degree angle, left leg out front and right leg tucked so far back you'd be expecting him to split in two at any second. This Is the vision he'll be remembered for the most no doubt.
Joey Ramone was everything a singer shouldn't be....long unkempt hair, 24 hour shades, thinner than heroin chick and as tall as the Empire state. But unlike most singers at the time he made street an art form. He bought the look, the style, and the feeling back into rock 'n' roll without ever really trying.
From local oddball to worldwide inspiration within 18 months. Joey was the voice behind the blitzkrieg. The steam behind heat.
This gangling leathered anti-hero became the epitomy of punk rock icons for ever and ever. He was the leather from the street, the rip inside the jeans, the sweaty sneaker sliding on the boards and the punk within the geek.
Cheers Joey for not being DUMB at all!!!
